I think the latter part of your comment was the point of the article. Nobody mistakes Ryan’s program for a NBA factory. He was good at taking guys who probably didn’t belong on a D1 roster as freshmen and turning them into competitive college players. Something to be said for that.

His job is to develop college players, not NBA players, and he turned more 2-stars into valued contributors than any other coach.
