You can definitely adapt the system to fit your needs. I wonder if you could anticipate the day’s spending before you start your journey and take only that cash? (Then maybe take a credit card for backup.)

Personally rather than keep cash envelopes laying around (which can backfire), just withdraw what you actually need daily so the money isn’t “on hand”.
