As someone from an Immigrant family ,I have always suspected that at some points her residency here was not legal. Firstly h1b visas can last 1-3 yrs depending on the circumstances anybody going back to get their visa stamped so often is usually here on a visitors visa or have a temporary work permit i.e i.e 6 mths.
