Honestly, as someone who has lost a close, immediate family member, I'm offended that he would say that. Those experiences shape your life and are something you never forget. They are using their personal experience to try and do something to help others who may also be going through those experiences.

That is literally the worst explanation he could have given. Holy shit.

She DOES have personal experience that makes her perhaps not more qualified, but certainly more motivated than others to do the work she does. I haven't seen the show, but some of those criminal-catching types of programs have done good in bringing attention to unsolved crimes.
