I couldn’t agree with you more. In fact, I’m willing to bet that they knew about a lot of these bugs and released anyway. I’m not blaming QA and I’m not blaming the software engineers. I’m blaming management who almost certainly said “fuck it let’s release anyway”.

They need to write a book on all these battles. Unless someone already has?

Acutally, I’ve worked (and still work) in Software Quality Assurance for over 20 years (3 of which in the game industry). So ya, I know something about bugs and how to prevent and anticipate them. This shit was sloppy and totally foreseeable.

On the contrary, with a code base that old every patch is going to more difficult to release cleanly than the one before.

Literally everyone could have predicted this. This level of disastrous patch just should not happen 14 years into the game’s life.
