Tires lose grip over time as they wear down and lose rubber. When they go off, a car’s handling and braking get worse. After stopping and getting new tires, that problem is remedied. This is universal in basically all racing series that use slick tires. Is this really a foreign concept to you?

No he didn’t. He had one of the best cars all race. There were a few times at the end of stints that his tires were shot and he was very loose, but overall he was one of the fastest guys out there, if not the fastest.
