I would suggest that the reason is far more practical. The hosts need to eat and drink as part of their roles. The hosts also use energy. If I put a piece of candy on the table and tell my child “don’t eat that”—knowing that he will—I’m not somehow creating a destiny wherein he must eat the candy. The child still chooses to eat it. The child has a choice, and makes a choice. I just know him well enough to predict that choice with near certain accuracy.
