i credit this film as my "awakening" to the power of film. saw it when first released in cinema and all the way through i felt like had been elevated to a new vision of what film could be. I was young and didn't have a cinematic background or anything like that. it made such an impression on me that for years…

that 'strutting along the bar' is one of my fav scenes in a film of all time. i remember just being dumbstruck when i saw it as it added nothing but a frisson of joy to a really dark film.

even the review has made me cry. i am going to miss this show.

I haven't read the source material. But when I heard "Serve God" I thought that's a terrible idea. Westboro Baptist church and trump supporters came to mind immediately (given the southern U.S. Context).
