It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  If your time frame is a couple years and you aren’t totally risk averse, you could invest half in large cap mutual fund and the other half in savings.

Not having millions to blow, this is easy to say but... I would have a hard time spending hundreds of thousands on a car that I would hardly drive. I would go for a Corvette zr1 or a Nissan GTR.  I think they would hold up better to more miles.

I love the idea of Tesla and I hope the company is successful.  They are forcing the other car companies to start innovating or be left behind.  That being said I wouldn’t invest any money in it’s stock and I wouldn’t buy one of their cars until they get their shit together.
