My guess is the crowd was standing up to the social justice warriors who are out of control.  It’s the same reason we have Trump.  The pendulum swings too far in each direction.  

Not having millions to blow, this is easy to say but... I would have a hard time spending hundreds of thousands on a car that I would hardly drive. I would go for a Corvette zr1 or a Nissan GTR.  I think they would hold up better to more miles.

Only on the short term. As always, the best product will win out. 20 years from now, most cars sold will probably be electric and not gasoline. That’s not because of over-regulation or exaggerated stories.  It’s because of capitalism.  Electric cars have some big advantages and when the price is finally competitive…

I’m pleasantly surprised by the comments here.  I don't even think Musk is in it for the publicity.  He was ASKED to help the kids in the cave.  He was ASKED to help with the water in Flint.  Good for him!  He could just sit around criticising people instead of trying to help.
