I find it amazing that companies didn’t start adding 3G until like the launch of 5G. I really wonder if it was mostly the network brands themselves offering stupid cheap plans if they used 3G instead of 4G, and how long they actually expected it to be supported for. 

Just a heads up: in the very first sentence, it says “right of passage”, but the expression is “rite of passage”. A rite is a ritual, a right is something entitled to you. I don’t want to be (more of) a dick about it, but it’s only 10 words from the start, so it’s not exactly buried deep in the article.

My guess is, if they had already come to a full stop, they used regenerative braking to slow at the light rather than the brake. Because this involves letting the car slow itself, without application of the brake, the driver could have put their foot down at the light.
