I mean, at the very least they’ve gotten a bunch of advance publicity...

Always good to remind people that disabled people are assholes too sometimes! (or like, clueless or however you would categorize that question)

you’re right, and I’m wondering why I bothered to post. The pairing with a panda video put it over the top for me. I would also note that I’m usually in the grays and I suspect that my post was promoted or whatever because it causes more controversy and so, more comments/clicks. So I’m just feeding the engine... ugh.

From what I can tell this is not a story of someone “helping” a disabled person but just a story of a deafblind person having a conversation. Gawking at it, especially when you directly compare this to watching a video of cute pandas, is inspiration porn and objectification. Do you realize that disabled people have

also when that guy is Timothy Oliphant! YES PLEASE

I’ve always guessed it was supposed to be a play on on “everything you wanted to know about sex but were afraid to ask” but it doesn’t work.

This happens way less when it’s a boy, except when that boy hangs out with a girl, then “they are going to get married/look it’s his girlfriend!” Barf. Often this comes from the girl’s parents so it’s awkward to fend off. If I feel ballsy enough I say “actually he’s into boys” or if I’m being more polite, “let’s not

“Oh, hello there! I barely noticed you were there.”

someone asked me and my partner if we were siblings on our first date :(. Then also at the DMV when we got our new licenses after moving to another state together. One of the reasons I’ve grown my hair out is so we look less similar.

Not a terrible movie at all! Depressing and not perfect - but terrible? come on!

their first kid was born 20 min after they arrived at the hospital, he says. So I’d guess she just has a good pelvis for labor (TMI maybe).

this seems so transparently to be the case and I am a little surprised (though, LOL, not sure why) to see Jezebel take it seriously. Good on O’Day for taking this chance for 15 more min though?

I kind of appreciate how that tattoo story is *almost* as shaming as a typical story on a woman: “Ben Affleck reveals massive back tattoo... The Gone Girl star showed off another one of his tattoos: a cross surrounded by flowers on his shoulder.” - revealed/showed off, as if being photographed through a telephoto lens

Wow, Tara and Johnny must be wearing serious heels or are just taller than I thought? Aren’t figure skaters, like gymnasts, tiny humans?

yes to the overdone tone of tsking in this article too — as if Jezebel hasn’t ever taken a relatively small story and run with it !

completely agree. The level of detail in the Babe article was totally indulgent and exploitative. I felt myself wondering what the publication was getting out of it before i was even done with the article. I do think the woman’s story should be out there if she wants it to be, but Babe took her for a ride here.

I totally like that even within this totally bizarre fake universe, Erin’s reaction is that of a grown up woman. She has like a moment of emotion and then she’s just like “oh TYRA.”

yup. kind of a made up story here. Ghostwriting is a business. He does it. No one liked him when he was famous but it was still writing and “worked” from a marketing perspective.

Ghostwriting = not weird, not unusual, kinda makes sense for shock-jocky writer to help other comedians write. Writing is not easy, even for professional performers. Plus writing is not all it takes to publish a book.
