we all need to know this.
Did they include a scene where a jerky waiter hands Baby his underlined copy of Atlas Shrugged? Because that was a formative moment in my understanding of literature and the world. Looks like they scrubbed the sister character of her terribleness so I am worried it might have been cut...
agree about the MPDG - but Dev is kinda manic pixie himself, so it’s a little more fitting, maybe? Anyway, agree that I did not want them to end up together - after showing pretty realistically how romance happens then falls apart in Season 1, that would be soooo unrealistic.
I loved a lot of it and I like Aziz so much I’m willing to forgive a lot. But I found the constant, honestly super cliche “special episode” structures distracting after a while. I have one episode to go but I feel like the narrative with the Italian girl is waaaaaaay under-examined. It feels like something that just…
Her Year of the Flood trilogy has a lot of similarities but even MORE real IMO, with the corporatized everything and genetic engineering. The women’s roles are more varied but I feel like they still mirror the Handmaids/Wives/Marthas traps and hierarchies. Also I just try to plug the series all the time.
Great googly moogly, thank you for researching and writing all of this so instead of randomly hate-cruising Goop once every six months I can rest confident that I am NOT missing any of this legitimately misogynist pseudoscience. That Mother Wound shit is FUCKED. UP.
oh shit. This solidifies for me why I don’t really want to watch it with my husb and teenaged stepson. Both kind of vaguely mumbled when I suggested they read it 6 months or so ago. Maybe I’ll just strap them in Clockwork Orange style to watch it, and go away for the weekend?
PSA for fans of Jennifer Grey/ the original: she is AWESOME in the Amazon show Red Oaks (not a huge part but a good one). That show in general is for total 80s teen movie suckers, and therefore I loved it.
Do you think all protest signs should capture the complexity of an issue? Because the March does have a platform. They have some issues for sure - apparently the DC one especially was not very open to diversity and a bunch of women and POC left the organizing committee (the fact that they have “principles” and…
kid reading a weighty tome while you protest is a nice touch
“sci-curious” made me chuckle. Though if your sign is accurate, sounds like you’re beyond dabbling.
all of this makes my 9-5 job seem very easy compared to the life of a mommy blogger/instagram advertiser.
if you expand the pictures you also see a baby actually being born out of a vagina. So it gets a bit more graphic than that.
if you would never spend more than $6 on a new shirt, you are committed to sweatshop labor. I’m not saying the $50 shirt is made in humane conditions (plenty are not) but the $6 one definitely is not.
I really can’t say if it’s possible or not that two people came up with such similar sketches unbeknownst to each other, but it’s just... weird that there was a really similar storyline in Louis CK’s show about Dane Cook stealing his joke, and whether or not he just came up with it independently (it was about itchy…
it reads and sounds awkward... to you.
A+++ analysis of that waiter video (and coverage of this story in general). Hilarious how he makes this into a broader statement about Trump and the dangers of twitter celebrity. My question: where is that waiter filming? Does the restaurant have an outdoor patio with curtains and mirror panels?
