my thoughts exactly. This is part of why I send my kid to daycare too (aside from the cost being better) - I’m glad for him to be cared for where the people are paid well, treated fairly, etc. I’m also glad not to be the boss lady.

oy. I was on board until this.
you might want to ask yourself why you’re so quick to defend this practice. Do you really think it has nothing to do with prejudice? Just a coincidence that disabled people are excluded from mainstream media (other than in pitying or “inspiring” stories)?
no, it’s really not that simple, sorry. It would also be cheaper to hire unknowns and people don’t do that. Or not pay for super expensive CGI, prosthetics, etc to disguise people as disabled. It’s more about deep-seated stereotypes - including the idea that it’s amazing acting to pretend to be disabled, thus the idea…
I mean, Drake’s performance in DeGrassi really showed the need for stellar acting in a role like that... uh ... right?
they have a new dipped version too which I think adds a bit more style.
I heard Delaney on a podcast where he talked about how the other American friend (can’t remember his name - the addict) is the cautionary tale for him, the bad version of his character. So yes, there is a mean streak and it’s real, but not as bad as his friend’s I guess?
really? because it has nothing in common with that movie except that the woman in it has a prosthetic leg. In fact this is exactly the oversexualized thing she is talking about.
funny, Aimee Mullins also talks about this in her TED talk.
YES. thank you.
This is a complex question. The medical shorthand of “mental age” is extremely problematic and leads to statements like “He has the mental capacity of a toddler. Do you think a toddler should be “barred” from having sex?” [quoting another commenter in this thread]
you're not wrong about Indiana but you are definitely wrong about Illinois. Greatest state in what? Lack of elevation?
not saying I recommend this but that baby's immune system is probably amazing. this is why people didn't get polio pre-modern sanitation.
yes this was very confusing!!
Dr. Ruth was like a breath of fresh air through my pubes at the end of this article.
I would add, everything costs more than you think it will. So brace yourself for that and ask again, what is most important?
Hey how about having your "evening cry" be about something other than people with disabilities?
you know, just FYI it is very possible to have wanted an abortion and still be a loving parent. Not that this is an endorsement of Farrah, but in general, these truths can co-exist.
weird that there is so much speculation about the artist's intention and identity in this thread and the article... the artist is decently well-known architect James Wines (fun fact: designed the first Shake Shack in Madison Square Park): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Win…
not a fan of things that hate on old and sick people. I can't really tell if this does or not.
