It seems like we have to have this discussion every time. Believing in that very basic tenet means you are someone who is not an asshole. Feminism involves the acknowledgment of and action against the patriarchy.

I am so conflicted. There will never be another Angela Lansbury, whom I love and want as my grandmother. Yet, I want Octavia Spencer to own the role and make the show as popular as Castle.
I don't know why, but the simple frowny-face emoticon in response to this get-up made me laugh so hard. There really is no better way to put it. It's an offense to everyone's eyeballs because it's just an awful, not-fun-to-look-at piece of work. Therefore, :(
I love your color! I would love to go bluish grey like that. You rock it, girl!
I think a big help would be, instead of only having a female orientation that teaches them how to watch out for date rape drugs and what not, also have a male orientation about what consent means and how it relates when one or more people involved is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the law in regards to what…
In an argument with someone who doubts the efficacy of "consent education"? Cite: 'Don't Be That Guy' ad campaign cuts Vancouver sex assaults by 10 per cent in 2011.
There never seems to be enough emphasis on the rapists. In order for rape to stop, rapists (mostly men, sorry guys) need to stop raping people. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was in college, there was a common slogan "Men can stop rape." The idea was that well-intentioned men could protect us, and…
I think the best way to deal with this is not to cut down on drinking (which will be hard to do), but to severely punish rapists and those who prey on drunk people. I mean, severely. Obviously, kicking them out of school, but also having them forfeit their tuition and, of course, GOING TO JAIL. I think having the…
This is crazy. The mere fact that this article had to be written is madness. Men and women get grayhair, or thinning hair, or gasp lose their hair. It's a fact of life. I've had grays since my mid-20's, and my mom was gray at 30. My best male friend went bald during law school. One of my close male friends is almost…
This is absolutely a big deal. As someone fortunate enough to have insurance, I will tell you that seeing a therapist regularly has CHANGED MY LIFE. It takes a lot of courage to make that first call, but I encourage you to do it. The hard work and discomfort are worth it. And now, with mandated coverage, it can…
Praise Freud.
I've long said that it's amazing that we treat heart health as fundamentally different from mental health. That is, if the heart has a failure, we treat it like a legitimate issue and tell people that they deserve the best care possible. If the brain has a failure, we tell people to "stop being crazy."
Mental health is just as important as physical health. I am tickled pink that the government is starting to believe in treating mental illness and requiring health providers to treat them equal to breaking your leg. Bravo!
As someone with OCD and panic disorder who pays $160/week to see my psychologist because it's not covered by insurance let me be the first to say FUCK YES.
