Literally all they had to do was nothing.

All credit to Ahmaud’s mother who forced this to trial when originally they would have done a plea deal with a potentially lighter sentence and cushier prison life.

These guys can spend the rest of their lives in lockup knowing that all they needed to do was mind their own business.

That is exactly what I was going to ask.  A white couple also went through the house and I didn’t hear about anyone chasing them.

A.J. Balbo, Greg McMichael’s attorney argued that Greg chased Arbery because he was the man he had seen in security camera footage taken from a house under construction and not because he was a Black man.”- Did these Overseers chase down the white children also caught on tape? That white couple?

Gillian Anderson ... as Eleanor Roosevelt”

Why don’t they do what the want and just start history when Ronald Reagan became President .

“...one of its counselors sent a memo that says parents can opt their children out of Black History Month lessons, according to Newsweek.

The memo says “lessons related to equity, caring, and understanding differences.” That sounds less like Black history to me and more like the kiddie version of the feel-good, milquetoast sensitivity training sessions big companies do.

Republicans are already working on that, too, by removing the actual history of white colonizer brutality from textbooks.

I assume this means that children are similarly given the option to opt out of white history for the other 11 1/2 months of the year?

I told my mother that when the GOP was done, we’d end up with an entire generation that knew nothing about the Civil War, the KKK, the Nazis, the civil rights movement amongst other things. By the time they’re done, the only “logical” explanation for a generation of kids for racial disparities is that whites are

I’m from Indiana and there’s a reason we’re called “The South of the North”. when Parks and Rec had the joke about Pawnee Indiana seceding from the union to join the confederates I had to look it up because I WASN’T SURE IT WAS ACTUALLY A JOKE. there are so many god damn confederate flags up here that this does not

This is ALSO an example regarding how the supposed “good apples” can take steps to remove the “bad apples” from their midst.

Fanta Bility was an 8-year-old girl who was shot and killed outside a football game by three officers who falsely identified her family vehicle as a drive-by car.

Systemic racism is absolutely exactly that. Making racially charged comments without thinking they’re 1) doing anything wrong and 2) don’t expect there to be any consequences.

For other readers who might have been as confused as I was, the dead girl’s name is Fanta, not Fanita. Hopefully the headline will be corrected. Rest in power, Fanta.

For anyone so inclined, there's an informative piece in the NYT about how so many districts have been gerrymandered to hell and back just to ensure that the races aren't competitive. Anything to disenfranchise and maintain status quo

I mean, just call them out and say, “So you don’t think a single Black woman can be qualified to sit on the Supreme Court?” and watch them hem and haw away.

It seems to me that even his clarification is disqualifying, as I don’t know which is worse, the underlying assumption that the administration can’t find a Black woman worthy of being championed by one of his “reasonable people” or the fact that he thinks the Supreme Court has any credit left at which identity
