What I'm saying isn't about ivy league schools - it's about carefully evaluating how much it's going to cost to obtain an education at <insert school here> and whether that will pay off.

All of the debt I see my peers paying off is astonishing to me.
I like this structure better.
The problem is the hot/cold issue was built up by describing it and presenting it from another source, then dismissed in just a few words. By the time you dismiss it, you already have a bunch of people who have formed an angry opinion. They may, at that point, either be skimming, or skipping, or just want to vent.
I never suggested they should comply. I was only responding to the comment that the service provider's cooperation provided everything necessary for the government to read the payload.
What?
So... you're of the opinion that the government should be able to see into any and every communication?
It doesn't matter if a service provider is working with the NSA, if the container they're providing has encrypted data inside it.
I'm not really sure about the VPN, it depends on how the iPad handles the VPN connection. It should know what traffic is local and what traffic is remote, so it should be able to communicate with your Apple TV.
Hi -
Thanks for the tip. My girlfriend watches a lot of our TV show content and stuff, though, and doesn't want to deal with an extra step where we don't have to (i.e. bringing the iPad into the equation where you could just use the remote to navigate the ATV).
I gave up and converted all my media to an iTunes-friendly MP4 format. The Airplay capabilities of the iPad to stream media to the Apple TV (once I jailbroke the iPad so I could enable Airplay on all of the video apps) mean that I can throw just about anything I want onto the big screen simply and easily.
I think one of the important things in all of this, though, is to avoid accruing a lot of "permanent" expenses during the salary climb. I make a lot more money now, but I have only incrementally more fixed bills. I could drive a BMW if I wanted to, but I don't. I could live in a more luxurious home, but I don't.
If you are living in an area where a reasonable home is $100k, then I have to suggest that you could probably make some lifestyle choices that would allow you to save up to make some investments on your salary. I'm paying for two people on a similar amount of money and can pretty easily put away $1000/month with…
I agree, perspective is a funny thing. When I started out, I was happy when I jumped from $12 to $15/hour, and a $40k/year job seemed like a pretty tremendous amount of money.
Individually, $75k is a pretty happy place. Right now, I'm around that range but the household is a bit shy of $100k for two adults (girlfriend in grad school). We are not financially stressed and have the luxury of taking a nice vacation every year, but if we averaged $75k each, it would essentially remove all of the…
If your network cable is a "straight through" cable (i.e. same pinout at both ends), it's unlikely that the cable is the problem.
"Thickness" of the cable is far more likely to vary based on the jacketing the vendor used than any relevant or functional thickness change, like the gauge of the wire.
I agree, but while an appraiser won't value a house too high, the reality is that an appraiser has no vested interest in getting to the lowest price (unlike the buyer or the agents). So, sure, you can get hurt by a valuation but it's also not uncommon for an appraiser to value a house higher than what the market will…
It's amazing how much people get caught up in stuff that's easily fixed. Aside from things like countertops, a surprising number of people have trouble even overlooking wall colors or furniture.
