Reading all the other stories down here yours is by far the pettiest one to hate an entire manufacturer for. I have driven many BMWs (old, new, and in between) and have never been disappointed. Sounds like you just drew a short straw almost 20 years ago.

‘89 Geo Spectrum with a stick. Not register-able. Trade for a ... hand warmer?

It’s interesting how that works. In prison, I think people have a lot more time on their hands to really think about what’s important to them. In the “outside world” there are so many distractions and responsibilities that faith gets pushed to the back burner.

Too soon. Too soon...

I was out at night with my parents’ slow-mobile Nissan Versa hatch. Has a 6-speed, so not all bad. After filling up at a gas station I got the damndest idea to pull a few 2nd gear handbrake spins in the neighboring high school parking lot. It’s been raining all day so I want to nail at least a 180 on the wet pavement.

Step 1: Acquire convertible.

Somehow, I knew you must’ve been talking about Missouri in the opening. Daily driving a convertible this time of year has its ups and downs, pun intended. Its not uncommon here to have four seasons of weather in a single week. On hot days the wind feels great in your hair, but there’s no escaping having your shirt

I wanted to see it get restored and be the Pixar lamp

I chased down this rig loaded with 2017 Giulias before they were even in dealerships. In my defense I hadn’t left 2nd gear in 20 minutes.

Glad I’m not the only one! I always glance at my tach to make sure nothing’s freaking out on me. Next I assume my clutch is going out and burning to a crisp.

Would legit daily drive after the mechanical issues were sorted

At first I thought the point of downshifting to slow down when you spot a cop was going to be brought up. But no, the advice is to actually limit your speed by sound. I’ve been daily driving manuals for about a year now. I’m a teenage male. No tickets (although close calls of course). I’ve never found myself driving

Goodness, am I the only teenager that did/does all his hooning in gravel parking lots with the crappy family hatchback? Sometimes reading these make me fell left out for not being in any accidents or receiving any tickets yet.

KBB does not factor in the market value for a car. For desirable ones like this E39 people will pay much more than what it’s “really worth”.

I hate this stereotype. Teen car guys absolutely CAN lavish their car with care and attention. Someone who actually is passionate about their car is not irresponsible with it.

Double yes!

Having cars as your main hobby can make you constantly feel alone. By that I mean none of the normal people out there understand you or share any of your interests. Of course it’s not like that online, but the real world is a a different story.

Literally came here looking for this

My parents have a hatch with a 6-speed stick. Not a bad car. Every time I hop in to get groceries or whatever it seems so quiet and refined compared to the beater E36 I drive.

In no particular order:
