@Timmy: Yes, the excellent dark sky site above is quite misleading. In an isolated place you can definitely see some cool stuff, like Pleiades or satellites. But you won't see swaths of space gas or anything like that.

To be honest, I'd rather guys do the same to raise prostate cancer awareness. Breast cancer research gets 6 times more funding than prostate, which affects almost as many men. I think Joel's suggestion would work just as well for this.
