To me it isn’t as much that he’s blaming his marriage and kids as he is saying he was depressed and unhappy and using alcohol as a way to avoid making difficult decisions regarding his marriage. He was depressed and self-medicated with alcohol which is not terribly uncommon. I know it’s popular to dog on Affleck but I

- The Nicholas Cage!

This is, again, just a new variation on the Marvel business model of extended universing.

Short has rubbed me the wrong way more often than not over that period of time, but damn they grabbed his typical on-camera persona and turned it into a an act of self-preservation.  Martin could have been a continuation of his LA Story character from 30 years ago.

I would argue that Cecily Strong’s portrayl of a clown that had an abortion at age 22 is at least as strong-that coupled with her mad wine throwing skills is a stand out for me.

Shiv is a great, great character in part because of how easily she swerved people who didn’t get the point of her or this show. There were so many people convinced in S2 that Shiv was the knight in shining armor here because she’s a shrewd #girlboss. She even fucked over the Bernie stand-in, which the wine mom

I thought this was a powerful story on that the kids only shot at happiness is together and away from their father. And I think this season wasn’t retreading the same story, it had to cement that these are patterns of child abuse and Logan can only manipulate them by turning them against each other. They are all cruel

I think the moment this episode hit me was when I started to see things from Logan’s side. If I was in his position, I wouldn’t want to leave the company in the hands of those four, either.

“Boo souls” is one of the most perfect lines, and line readings, for this show. When Greg said it, I laughed a bit, yet also felt queasy. “Good” Greg fully taking off the shackles of self-righteousness, giving himself permission to roll in the mud he was already neck-deep in. The ethos of this show - horrible people

No one will doubt how, well, strong—Strong is in his painful moments and also against other family members (Cox and him together are most electric) but broody scene after broody scene doesn’t perk up my energy. Matthew Macfadyen on the other hand, to me, is dizzying in the ability to switch gears from high to low,

Sarah Sherman is random as fuck lol. Who did she pay off?

A little early with this post given the egregious exclusion of Jeremy Strong delivering what had to be one of the most shattering performances in the Season 3 finale of SUCCESSION elevated an already great series to something quite extraordinary. The level of defeat and misery, the agony of his world crashing down

I’m sure he’s happy, in the same way that Harrison Ford was happy when they finally killed Han Solo, though that didn’t stop them from dragging him back in front of the camera to do an afterlife cameo.

I agree with all of this. And I would also argue that James Bond is rooted in a very particular set of male anxieties that do not necessarily work when transposed into a female character. The conspicuous consumerism of the Bond books and the opulence of the early films reflects British cultural anxieties over post-war

I of course have enjoyed ravenously consuming some TV shows, but I do think the movie vs. TV thing often boils down to TV being more explicitly designed to make you want more of it, and sometimes that quality—the wanting to watch more—is confused with the show actually being good.

I think the real reason for disliking long movies was when we saw them in the theater. I often really have to pee towards the end of a three hour movie. Not really an issue when at home because I can pause the video streaming to go stream myself.

Of course James Bond should be a man. That’s the character as intended. Making Bond a woman accomplishes nothing. It’s fake corporate gesturing to try to appease to the crowd that gets loud about wokeness thinking they’ll be satisfied. Make new roles for women. That’s progress. Put women behind the camera. In the

I mean, both her and Craig aren’t wrong? The movies make it pretty clear that even though he may seem cool on a surface level, Bond’s a terrible person, a dude who murders dozens per movie and has frequent hook ups because he has nothing else going in his life aside from his job which, again, is as a government

I would love to see an MCU movie where they don’t have 20 minutes of non-stop CGI at the end. I find myself tuning out at what should be the climax nowadays.

100% agree.  Let’s put the CGI to bed.  It should have been actual fighting by humans, not dumbass CGI dragons.  Still liked the movie on balance, but that was a shame.
