The Sand Orgies of Dune

The Sand Orgies of Dune

I only saw one example of such a planting, which is paltry leavings for those with little time or patience. Perhaps more will join him in the field.

Hyperbole is also incalculable. :p

Someone please explain this stride/stride mother thing to me? Google brought me right back here to AV Club.

I think this is silly, but I can't come up with anything witty (this early in the AM) to say, that doesn't sound like me being a dick, personally attacking you for your choices.

I've never seen "poofter" in print, so thanks for that! (I'm American)

That con lady in Star Trek TNG did the same thing, only she studied the existing myths/religions of a civilization in advance, and portrayed whatever deity it was though holotechnology. Pretty slick. Of course, they could've easily gotten the idea from Dune.

May I borrow your life? I'll give it right back. Promise!

I'm a couple eps from the end of the season, and the shit's startin' to go DOWN. This is a great show. It's amazing how they balance the seriousness and the humor, which Arrow was never very good at:

See, I didn't know that, and still don't, in that I assumed up until now that that was unique to Dune. It was my first sci fi book I think. All I read from 4th grad up to middle school was Stephen King and EB White (White actually came in AFTER King, time wise….surprised I'm not more messed up than I am).

Oh yeah!!! ♫"It's my Duncan a box! My Duncan a boxxxx gurrrrrrl!"♫

I saw that later in the Random Roles article. Not sure it was actually the premier he walked out of, but if it wasn't, close enough.

I never watched Wings (I didn't watch sitcoms then) and initially avoided him because the commercials were so annoying, but then I figured out SW (see Masters of Horror, for one thing) is a great actor, who can really do drama. I was seriously hoping they would cast him as The Man in Black for the Dark Tower. I like

I still have a hard time believing it's not some artist's elaborate joke.

That heartplug thing was sooooo disturbing to me, and I was almost an adult by the time I saw the movie (pretty sure I read the books first) and I don't even think Lynch made that up. It's funny that you mention the gay aspect of it. I had a good friend in high school who I hung out with every day, and Dune was his

I did think having all the military people read lips so they could spy through binoculars to be pretty genius, but maybe he stole that from something else too?

"So many people copied the themes, structure and style of the book and
improved it that it's hard to get why people liked it in the first place
and it feels unoriginal at the same time."

I wonder, while he was writing this book, if Herbert felt like I do when I work on a big "creative" project……with the constant tiny fear in the back of his head that he will get hit by a bus and nobody will ever see it?
I mean, we say world building easily, but this guy was actually building a fucking WORLD.
