I feel like I spend half my days reading these sites, and yet still I seem to miss so much of the ridiculousness.

Please don’t kill us all. I’m not like all the other greys.... :-O
So stealing it.
It’s French! So that’s why. :-)
I’m the dork who buy etymologies and dictionaries just for fun. Yeah, I read the encyclopedia when I was a kid; come at me.
Don’t feel too bad! We all have them. I’m actually really good with pronunciation generally, but I always hesitate over gesture (!!!) and culinary. I’ve been a lawyer for 24 years and am now a professional editor/writer, and I’ve lived and breathed books/reading/language since I started inhaling them at 3. But I…
Have you looked at a modern dictionary (words on a page/screen, I mean)? I don’t recognize the pronunciation symbols at all. WTF. I apparently missed some sort of revolution.
Okay, so your challenge question: pronounce forte. :-D
I’m pretty excited about the chocolate. I thought at first it was a burgundy, as brown isn’t used a lot these days, so I kinda loved it. Plus, it’s a gorgeous brown. (I forced my bridemaids to wear chocolate 20 years ago, so I’m partial to the color generally speaking.)
I work at home, and my two are 14 and 16. I’m still trying to train them to fix their own damn meals on days they’re home from school. My advice: set very low expectations, and set them now, or you’ll be me in 10 years.
She is stunning, always turned out and really plays with different looks. She seems to be on a good track publicity/life choices-wise. She’d be a beautiful starlet, and one who seems to have her own sense of self and is solid, potentially a good role model, too. And that dress is the quintessence of elegant. She…
Sorry I’m doing a comment days after this was active, but I think your take was generous, which is a good thing. But the learning curve on intersectionality and social justice issues that don’t personally affect them is really, really slow. And it seems like it should sort of be a job requirement.
So late to this, but I love that writers here actually sometimes respond to commenters. I’d like even more, though I know you can’t mix it up too much. Silence at Jez when there’s something to be addressed (emblackening rules, disappeared people, even grammary/typos) gives the same impression my ex-husband does when…
Between spitup down my back (silk shirts, of course, and suits, because that’s what my work was like then), and overflow when I’d get caught in a meeting when I needed to pump, I probably smelled like one giant dairy farm for a good 8 months.
My older daughter had terrible reflux; rags did nothing. I was constantly getting milk spitup down my back (and front...).
? Tons of people have full-time nannies. If she is worth $50MM, she could have a hundred of them.
But scary appearances make weak people feel like big bad-ass bosses.
On the other hand, if we’d legislated the fuck out of this, 17 people who died in the last month would be alive.
In the absence of a reason to think otherwise, I’m not going to be cynical about this and will believe that this was a matter of conscience fir the. This is big. They sell a lot of guns. Now if only Cabela’s would do the same.
I give no immaturity points to white women. As I said, she behaved badly and is responsible for that. But they were not equals, and he had the greater obligation to her as his employee, to his wife and to the country....for two of the three of those he made certain solemn promises, even. But the bottom line is that a…
