I love that the decision to greenlight one of my favorite shows ever pretty much came down to an exec saying "I know this guy, the show's cheap, & it's really long so it'll fill up all those timeslots we don't have programming for yet!"

The show wasn't owned by HBO or Viacom, so Jim Mallon couldn't have been forcibly removed from Best Brains by either company. If they didn't like working with him, their only option was to not renew the show once their four season contract ran out at the end of season 6. (That Comedy Central gave them a truncated

Spelling it "Sitta" was an homage to the Pavement song title "Fame Throwa"; maybe you should broaden your braining intentions to include each member of Pavement for inspiring them to come up with something that irritated you so?

I love FFS; it was pretty much a whole new Sparks "rock" record after going so long without one. As much as I love Tame Impala's other albums, but the new one has left me cold so far.

Apparently Knopf was really miffed most of the material he had written for Mines was vetoed by the other Menomena fellas. He threw off a definite "I don't want to be here" vibe when I caught them on the Mines tour, which was really odd when contrasted with how everyone else in the band was playing the hell out of

To me, Moms (the album they made after Knopf left the band) is Menomena's most consistent album front-to-back. I was wondering if his departure would take away something essential from their formula, but, lo & behold, I ended up liking them even more than I did before!

Yeah, what a cheap shot at Most Wanted. I think it's a much funnier movie than the 2011 reboot, the characters feel like themselves, & we didn't have to put up with nearly as much Walter blandness. Hell, evil Kermit got more laughs out of me in his first 5 minutes on screen than Walter did in the entirety of the

Wasn't Bobcat's next film supposed to be an adaptation of one of The Kink's mid-70's rock operas? Either way, I loved "World's Greatest Dad" & "God Bless America" had its moments, so I'll be checking this out…

When I tell casual fans that the Coleman Francis trilogy are some of my favorites they're usually kind of astonished - I think Beast of Yucca Flats is probably the most accessible of the three, but even then you have to really enjoy their takes on uber-incompetently made movies (The Creeping Terror, Monster A-Go-Go,

"I can't imagine how buying every one of these things doesn't make you broke."

Just five? Shit, man, that's really tough… just for the hell of it, I'm gonna extend it to 10 in chronological order:

I'm hoping for a better copy of it - the A/V on the one circulating online is kinda rough. Of note: SFI got them their first Emmy nomination (the other was "Deathstalker").

I think Outlaw of Gor just needs an official release to be exposed to a wider viewing audience - the version online right now is a fuzzy 3rd or 4th generation copy. The movie itself is watchably ridiculous, then you pile on the great riffs & host segments & it makes for an all-time classic - I think it's a pretty good

Hah! I actually really like Starfighters - it's so uneventful it's surreal & the long-ass refueling scenes with that "ba-duh-ba-duh-ba" music never fail to make me laugh. It's not one of my favorites, but I've never had trouble getting through it.

Check it out & keep an open mind. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Or you can go to "Soultaker" for the return of Joel & Frank, or seek out Joel's 2 favorite Mike episodes: "Werewolf" & "Final Sacrifice".

Aside from the "Phones!" song, I actually far prefer the Turkey Day version of Blood Beast to the "standard" version. Pearl's introduction is far less shrill in the Turkey Day version & we get to see a bunch of classic bit characters (Jack Perkins! Mr. B Natural! Pitch! Michael Feinstein!) one last time. Plus:

But nobody has done anything with Mallon since the show went off the air (except for Paul Chaplin when they tried to revive MST3K as lame Flash cartoons a few years ago). I honestly think they were all just busy with their own brands. Mike did ask Joel to do a Rifftrax right before Joel launched Cinematic Titanic -

Joel & Jim Mallon are the only Best Brains that make money off the sales of the DVDs, which, unfortunately, makes up pretty much 100% of Best Brains profits since the show went off the air…

I had that issue when Bill took over as Crow. Trace was my favorite riffer & when he left it was really difficult to get used to Bill's grouchier, less mobile Crow - I even gave up on the series for a while until I was given the DVD set that had Time Chasers on it as a gift & was blown away by how goddamn funny it
