Privacy for the rich, the panopticon for the rest of us. Just like it’s socialism for the rich and dog-eat-dog capitalism for the rest of us.

I am an MG nut (daily’d one in the 1990s) and I’m 100% in favor of the Weber DGV conversion for these. Mine had the twin SUs on it but if the DGV makes it more drivable for you, go for it.
The proper answer to the “States’ Rights!” assertion is, “A state’s right to do what, exactly?”
There’s one of these in Newark, Delaware, too, on southbound Chapel St. at Park Pl. near the UD campus. Almost all traffic turns right onto Park Pl. anyway; the remainder of Chapel St. is a short stub that dead ends at the Amtrak tracks. It has a couple of houses and, IIRC, a small medical office building on it.
I used to live in Delaware, where you have to run your car through a state DMV inspection lane every other year to renew your registration. The inspection was a joke. *blink* *blink* *honk* *flap* “You pass.”
There’s a trick here--the door acts like a plug, and the cabin pressure helps to keep it closed at altitude. You have to pull the door inwards a little bit, then it rotates slightly to be able to clear the door frame and only then can you push the door outwards to open it fully.
Yeah here in Yankee-land the dipshits have learned that it’s rude to say certain words for groups of people in public. As a conservative appearing, middle-aged white male, it’s amazing and disheartening what some people think is appropriate to say in front of me.
Red rear turn signals on NAR cars where the variants of the same car sold outside North America have amber ones—especially since there’s now proof that amber turn signals reduce the incidence of rear-end crashes. (Volkswagen, I’m looking at you.)
Recently bought a new car and everything was black, white, grey, or silver. Had a heckuva time finding a red one, there were three dealers in the Boston area that had a red one on the lot, not a one less than 20 miles away.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the Russia-Ukraine war is over, and Aeroflot wants to recertify their Boeing and Airbus aircraft as airworthy.
This is also the case with the Euro turn signals for the current-gen VW Tiguan. The Euro ones, with amber signals, don’t meet DOT specs for minimum size.
J.D. Power “Initial Quality” says absolutely nothing about long-term reliability. That and $2.50 will get you a ride on the subway.
They do yank licenses from repeat offenders in the U.S. as well, and it doesn’t matter--they just keep driving. Again, the lack of public transport means that they just don’t have any meaningful choice if they need or want to get somewhere.
There’s a large temptation to reduce the legal limit to .05 “because it’s what they do in Europe and they have fewer drunk-driving crashes.” As the article notes, though, we need two things for this to happen: better public transit, and denser, more walkable cities.
One thing that was somewhat attractive about the dealer model in the past was that some people could negotiate substantial discounts off the sticker price. However in recent years thanks to pandemic induced shortages, increasingly, it’s been a case of “the price is the price”. Not only is it “the price is the price”,…
If you’re a dude and you drive a Miata/MX-5 and you get stupid comments from your drunkle about it being a “girl’s car” or whatever, just paraphrase Eddie Izzard: “This isn’t a ‘woman’s car’. It’s my car. I paid for it. I own it and drive it. It’s my car.”
All any of my girlfriends have ever cared about is my apparent ability to breathe through my ears.
The only car I’ve ever owned that’s gotten comments from random women in parking lots is my current ‘01 VW New Beetle. I think I read somewhere that when these cars were new, 80% of the buyers were women.
