Every trim level of the Jetta was available with the manual transmission. Only TDIs and GLIs could get the six speed while all others got a five-speed.

Yea a faulty EGR will give you tons of issues. They are surprisingly expensive to replace on older vehicles too. My Cj7 was something like $60.
