1977? First mass-market unibody 4x4? The 1974 Subaru DL 4WD wagon would like a word with you! And Subaru’s 4WDs were ALL MANUAL until 1983 when an automatic became available on the 4WD models.

Right, and the ones that use a halogen-like capsule are orders of magnitude better than the normal sealed beam, you can even get projector housings that fit into the 4x6 and 3x5 buckets plus the large and small round, I’m talking about the ones that are just a grid of bare LEDs, they are OBNOXIOUS to look at, and you…
This. And if you’re trying to convert a sealed beam, just get a sealed-beam-to-halogen-capsule conversion housing + a PROPER LED replacement bulb, not those God awful composite LED replacements that also just blind everyone else.
18 year old car that has rust issues and needs work? I see these in better shape for less money... CP
Do you know what every Yugo included in the glove box? A bus schedule.
There’s a MotorWeek retro review on YouTube that has the Excel and the Yugo, and I don’t think John Davis knew which was worse :-P
Keep SUV for actual off-road-centric vehicles (Even in the case of things like Range Rovers that are used to shuttle the kids to soccer practice, they’re still designed with multi terrain ability in mind) and call the others “GMV” for Glorified Minivan
Sell the Outback, get an Ascent. Problem solved :-P
Spray the undercarriage down with some rust converter to keep it from spreading and then undercoat it, if you don’t repair the rust. Mill Supply or LMC Truck probably have patch panels :-)
I’ve seen exactly one of these in the wild, and it was a mangled hulk sitting in a junkyard, engine and transmission long gone, as was the instrument cluster. Got the diesel badge off the back though :-P
Come out west and buy a rust-free hulk with a dead transmission and swap the drivetrain into that, after having it undercoated :-P
You’ll definitely be missed, but I’m following you on Twitter and I think Instagram too, I’ve always enjoyed your articles :-)
CP just for lack of info. If it had more info and such, given the manual transmission it would be a decent price, maybe not a “nice” price but decent... Especially if the problem areas like the timing chain/guides were addressed, etc... $6500 for a car that’s had a bunch of recent maintenance done is a lot different…

Sequoia FTW
Yank it out, tear it down, take it to a machine shop and have it bored and the crank ground and zero deck the block and maybe even have ‘em do a valve job on it. It’s definitely reparable, just be glad you didn’t make an inspection window in the block :-)
I watched a guy pull into a spot NOSE FIRST, instead of backing in... Got the front end where he wanted it, pulled one of those giant floor jacks out of his trunk, jacked the rear of the car off the ground, slid it over, put the jack back in the trunk, and then centered the car in the space...
Pretty sure it’d just result in an article about how “Wypipo” can’t cook chicken
I remember hearing about a startup in the US that was developing a similar trailer, one that I saw was just an array of batteries plus a storage compartment, another was batteries plus a small diesel engine and a fuel tank. THAT particular one didn’t connect to the car at all, it more or less just pushed it along and…
