Huge Star Wars fan here. Mr. GOH! is correct; it’s the best SW movie since 1981. Return of the Jedi was never a great movie, and starkly pales in comparison to New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, especially. Please explain which of the movies that followed are better than TLJ. I imagine you’ll probably go with Rogue One,

I also don’t want to come off as someone who doesn’t believe she wasn’t subjected to sexism during her political career and also in the present. Of course that is true.

I worked in local operations in a midwestern city for the Obama campaign, in a state that was hotly contested during that primary. I don’t think a lot or even a small amount of those allegations are fabricated/overblown.

I followed this exact trajectory as well. Happy reading!

All true! But, her campaign’s actions in 2008 (veiled racism towards Obama), and her efforts to drown out her husband’s accusers during his presidency are well-documented and, I believe, are not the result of sexism.

I disagree that her own character and stature as a political candidate had nothing to do with her losing. But, thank you for pointing out the cyclical nature of electoral politics and the desire for an anti-establishment approach. I neglected to mention that earlier, but it absolutely had a lot to do with the turnout.

I am delighted to see Exhalation included in this list. It is so lovely. And, the way Chiang lets his stories evolve in such an unassuming (and sometimes devastating) way really sets him apart. “Anxiety is the Dizziness of Freedom” is the standout for me, and the best new release I read this year.

This all true, and I’m not going to argue with you because I agree. But, as I stated elsewhere here, she still lost an election to a deeply unpopular (and hated) man. I think, putting aside the legitimate issues you’ve highlighted in the voting system, has to speak to how a lot of people feel about her.

I won’t dispute any of this. But, in an election where she lost to a historically (at the time, and more so now) unpopular individual, it has to speak to her own unpopularity.

I mean, sure.

this cracked me the fuck up.

I went in to the Joker having somehow missed a lot of the online discussion surrounding it. I left the movie sort of shocked as to why it generated so much controversy. The violence, when compared to other big releases, does not strike me as over-the-top or unnecessary.

As a 34-year-old, I do what I can to keep up with the “lingo”

Disgusting!

Native Coloradan here. The new Blood Incantation fucking slaps, as was expected. Everyone should check it out!

Also, depression.

You’re right, Hader is great. I’m ashamed that I slept on Barry for so long. Just finished binging both seasons a week ago.

Season 2 turned me off. I thought it was terrible, especially after how good the first season was.

Though I’m happy Succession was mentioned for its ensemble, the finest performance by an actor in a television show this year was Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy.
