I was actually okay with her comments about Masterson at first. I don’t think the Cosby example is a good comparison. By 2009 he had already been accused and had a civil suit over rape. So it’s not like Burress or 30 rock were showing some limited knowledge.

It’s really revealing about the politics of UK punk that the Sex Pistols weren’t ‘just being yobs’ when they were being rude to Bill Grundy in that famous interview, they were standing up for their teenage friends that Grundy was being disgusting towards.

John Lydon of the Sex Pistols also accused Saville in a BBC interview in 1978. And  before in 1976, Steve Jones called out BBC host Bill Grundy for being a creepy pervert around the girls who were accompanying the Sex Pistols.

Having watching a lot of Conan (mostly during the Late Night era), I don’t think this indicates that he knew anything about Masterson, just because he’s used this type of line with a lot of guests. It’s possible - it’s not like I could know for sure - but I doubt it given just this clip to go on.

In the UK, there’s a US-born comedian Jerry Sadowitz. He’s got his own controversies. Well before anyone else did (1987), Sadowitz called out Jimmy Savile, much like Buress did Cosby. Savile was a much loved kids TV presenter (Jim’ll Fix It) who was just simply awful.
