The proper spelling is WHOA.
Hold up. That family set up an instagram for a dog that they haven’t even named yet? Is that what tbdpuppofficial means here? Wow, priorities.
Did this pop into anyone else’s head when they read the headline?
I love Sharon Stone.
I love that she is aging gracefully and phenomenally, she looks very happy, she has done an insane amount of charity work, and seems to be living her best life.
I think, too, that white people have this urgent need to be recognized as one of the “good ones” and they simply cannot handle quietly doing the work without seeking praise. You want to see a white celebrity who has been showing up without looking for adulation for being a decent human being?
That’s one of the better things about Bound. Almost like the Wachowskis knew what they were doing with LGBTQ tropes.
“kiss me/kyss mig” is a good one, if your wife doesn’t mind subtitles.
One of the reasons that Alice Wu’s Saving Face (with Joan Chen) is such a delightful romantic comedy
Does anyone remember “Lianna” by John Sayles? 1983.
The Field Mice based one of their best songs on the film.
When I was young and stupid I rented this movie quite frankly for the girl on girl scene. But then I got more into the relationship dynamic. It’s interesting that in the beginning Vivian is the confident assured one and Cay is pretty much treading in unfamiliar waters (No pun intended), By the end Cay is dead set on…
Helen Shaver has gone on to be very in-demand TV director. She has directed multiple episodes of Law & Order SVU, Person of Interest, Orphan Black, Vikings, & Snowpiercer. (Apparently she specializes in action scenes)
Ever see Pontypool? Not the 50s but no special effects iirc.
I’m fairly certain the call letters are meant to be a winking reference to War of the Worlds rather than a realistic call sign
If you can get your eyes on a copy without violating your personal ethics, you should really try. It's really, really good. And for a movie that's mostly two characters talking (or sometimes... listening) it flies by.
Finally got to actually watch this thing last night. I’ve been looking forward to it since you guys started tracking it around the festival circuit and raving about it. I really loved it a lot. The swooping, swirling camera movements. The ridiculously charming period-accurate slang. The glowing golden light of the bask…
Fifties sci-fi is my porn and everything about this sounds right up my alley, particularly the emphasis on dialogue and sound design. I’m at the point now where I’m craving a science fiction movie with no special effects or at most in camera/practical effects. If this ever shows up on Kanopy I’ll give it a look but…
A small correction: I believe you mean the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) that was covered in the This American Life episode, not the "Woods-Hull Oceanographic Institute." Woods Hole is a very cool place on the Southwestern end of Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
I posted this earlier but between this story, the woman who had sex with her dad, and the crappy wedding invite parents, I'm just so very happy that my parents are awesome. Or at least aren't crazy.
