I would risk Legionnaires’ disease in order to have those hush puppies that they serve from the watermill at the regular NC state fair.

Considering it was the Mountain State Fair, I am guessing the hot tubs are there because the area is “famous” for their hot springs, but yuck. Who the hell would ever go in a hot tub at a fair?
I teach A Modest Proposal every semester in Rhet/Comp 100, primarily as a vehicle for teaching satire—and also because I figure most of my students encountered it in some form in high school, and therefore will be relatively comfortable with it as an introductory text.
Once, years ago, a student took the piece to mean I…
It’s not my thing, but all of our tastes are so subdivided today that I can’t really worry about that.
Same boat. But I get why people liked it, and I don’t really get why Netflix cancelled it (or does anything). If it’s cheap enough (I can’t see why it would be that expensive) and paying customers like it, why cancel it? Is there some bandwidth limit. And if so, isn’t there some documentary they can cancel?

Thanks for the perspective, but you really don’t think that a historically progressive magazine like The New Republic publishing an article that argues that because a gay politician came out relatively later in life than the current norm, he won’t be able to focus on his job because he’ll be too busy exploring his…
This. It’s like if a black man wrote an essay about Obama and heavily implied he wasn’t a real black man because he never joined a gang or smoked crack. It’s literally criticizing the man for not embodying stereotypes.
Well this gay man found parts of the article to be quite homophobic. Calling a gay man “Mary” in an attempt to degrade and belittle him is pretty textbook homophobia.
