Nope, it's definitely not just you. Funny how there's a rule against body snark in the comments, but headlines like this one somehow get a pass?

Ab of Dab, I so miss Kate Harding!! I know she had her reasons for departing the fat-o-sphere (working on her writing that wasn't just about fat politics, for one), but at times like this I dearly miss her. If you could get a gig writing moderately skeptical (with just a dash of snark) articles about weight loss…
@PromQueen, I definitely think that one way to read the data - and I don't think the article does this - is, as you say, that nobody wants to be told how/what/when to eat. That is, indeed, the sane conclusion - people shouldn't get berated for avoiding foods they don't want/need to eat, and people shouldn't get judged…
Yes, yes, and yes again to your comment! Of course, nobody who is eating in a certain way, or for a certain purpose (food allergies, weight loss, weight gain, whatever) deserves to get teased or pressured by their coworkers. But this article makes an awful lot of assumptions about us - like that all Jezzies want to…
If you can feel that they're getting worn out - if it's hurting you - don't wait. I've had overuse injuries (due, at least in part, to old shoes) that kept me from being able to run for months. Those kinds of injuries come on slowly, so if you feel them starting, either (a) get a new pair of shoes now! or (b) switch…
I don't have the power to promote comments, but if I could, I'd promote yours! What's worth it is a shoe that keeps you injury-free and able to keep running, not some cute shoe that's a good brand and 50% off but doesn't fit quite right, and not whatever the "cool" brand/style is at the moment.
I, too, love my Mizunos - they've done amazing things for my knee and shin pain. In fact, I can always tell when it's time for a new pair when a certain kind of soreness starts showing up in my knees after runs.
As someone who will probably use a sperm donor to try to conceive in a few years - and who also has plans to adopt someday - I have to say that all this concern about the motives of the donor seems like a lot of overwrought handwringing. Ultimately, these guys *are* delivering what their customers asked for, and…
I do like my coffee, but you'd think they could find something more stereotypical, like herbal tea. Then again, my very-gay wife likes only English Breakfast. I have my doubts about there being an official lesbian drink. ;)
Berkeley doesn't have affirmative action (see California Prop. 209, passed in 1996, which outlawed it). And since then, the numbers of Black and Latino students on campus have plummeted.
Sadly, no, although technically, lesbians had that look first. Fun fact: while Bieber looks like a baby dyke, there's also an internet meme of men who look like old lesbians.
As it so happens, there *is* a Facebook app called the Lesbian Detector (which you can use on any of your Facebook friends). It's pretty humorous, and I discovered I could earn more points by adding "coffee" to my likes. For extra points, I added it twice.
It doesn't help, either, that Berkeley (and I think this is also the case at other UCs?) is cutting grad student teaching positions in a lot of departments, so that fewer courses can be offered or those that are offered have to cap their enrollments much lower. It means that even if folks don't drop out in their third…
I'm a current grad student at Berkeley, and yes, it's a pretty crunchy-liberal school. That being said, it's a huge state school, and so you have a whole bunch of different contingents: your fraternity/sorority types, Div. 1 athletes (and fans), lots of people who like to protest things, and - one of my favorite…
Well, Prop 209 actually forbids the UCs (or any public institution in CA) from taking race, ethnicity, or gender into account. The real kicker is class, which is becoming more and more of an issue as the UCs hike fees for in-state students.
What makes this all the more ridiculous is that the College Republicans *have* what they want already, and are getting more of it with each passing year!
Pregnancy often causes women's hair to grow and become thicker, so perhaps that's the solution: divorce your spouse + get pregnant = maintain the hair status quo?
I'm also white, with long straight hair I put up in a bun. Most of the time my hair has gone through without comment, but twice the bun has been patted down. It seems like, at the very least, this policy is unevenly enforced, which opens it up to being used to single out women of color. You'd think by now we would…
@Jan74, I've got to disagree - while I'm excited about getting a queen someday, a double works *just fine* for two average-sized ladies. Your problem is you've been putting a guy in your bed ;)
