Ha, yeah, I’d be sceptical about that too! Funnily enough I used to work in IT at the BBC before I got into development, and I used to roll my eyes at the devs who’d call up demanding to circumvent the usual corporate restrictions or ask for local admin rights (always denied). Only now do I understand their pain!

Christ. I’m a developer and I simply couldn’t work without local admin rights; if I found myself in a job where I couldn’t install whatever tools I saw fit I’d start looking for the next gig right away! Perhaps it depends on the kind of dev work you’re doing, though.

Sounds like a micro-managing hell hole to work for. No thanks!

How were they cooked when you were a kid? Boiled?

I thought the same thing...NO McFLURRIES NEEDED BOBBY!

HOW ABOUT “YES, BECAUSE HE IS TOTALLY MY TYPE?” WHY ARE YOU SEX-SHAMING ME, BOBBY?

This is the first time Behind Closed Ovens has made me almost weep with ‘my God, they’re not all assholes” joy.

Interesting about poking a hole. I’ve been meaning to try making scrambled hard boiled eggs. Something about putting the raw egg in the sleeve of a shirt and whipping it around to it mixes the whites and yolk together, so after you hard boil it, it’s just a neat mix.

Hear, hear! I carry a small 15L collapsible backpack with me as well. It’s extremely useful in many situations like this or once you arrive, you don’t have to carry a large backpack around.

That was added by the editors and not in the original essay. I’m sure they’ll fix it — mistakes happen. We’re all human.

What’s really a shame is that you couldn’t point out the error kindly, like an adult.

I agree. In fact, I think that's the point of the exercise. No one really thinks that the key to good conversations is knowing a lot of synonyms. If someone says "My coworker makes me so mad!" and you respond, "Your coworker doesn't make you happy, huh?" you'll sound stupid at best and condescending at worst.

Dear Azealia Banks,

HER STOMACH LOOKS LIKE MINE!!!! HER THIGHS LOOK LIKE MINE!

I've had 6 jobs since starting law school in 2006, and at every single workplace, this has been true, though I hadn't really ever thought about it until reading this.

I saw the same thing when I lived in Victoria, BC. 2 cm of snow and everything went to shit. But it's the same reason, no point in having infrastructure for it because it's so rare and lasts for so little time.

It's the same in Canada. Every winter people seem to forget how to drive in the winter, even though they've done it for the past 15+ goddamn years.

*standing ovation*

Unless it was necessary

There's a Very Good Reason why it can be difficult to accept criticism without taking it personally. Criticism _is personal_.
