Exactly, I've seen it with the lower end APU's and some Intel boards with BGA atom's in them. Never with something like this though.
As long as it's a Haswell based Chromebook you should be able to. You have to first put the Chromebook in developer mode, then enable legacy boot and usb boot. Then it should work fine. I did it and it runs pretty much any Debian-base.
I just got one too. I dualboot xubuntu on it and use Linux for my hard computing and ChromeOS for daily stuff.
I'd recommend Geany if it had a decent windows port. It's still my GOTO: on linux though.
