Quad SLI Titan benchmarks plz
Oh, interesting. Do you have a citing for this information? Not a challenge, just a genuine request. SATA II would clearly just be a move to save money on chipset costs, as there's no reason that a current generation wouldn't be able to handle SATA III except for the loss of PCI lanes.
Because of DRM. I thought that was obvious. Even with the advent of Steam coming to Linux, many computer-science-tin-foil-hatters are upset that people are even excited about it. Seeing as DRM is almost the antithesis of GNU.
Even SATA III hdd's don't fill the bandwidth of SATA II. 10k rpm drives will run about 130 mbps. SATA II's limit is 300 mbps. The only way you would fill that bandwidth is with an SSD. Which PS3 users have had hit-or-miss experience with. I'll probably wait to see someone else try an SSD and then if it works, upgrade…
I just wanted to say thanks to lifehacker for doing this! I catch so many good deals through this!
The only problem with the X70's that I've seen as an owner of the 670 and 470 is that manufacturers stop producing those first. It seems that so many people buy the X60's expecting to go SLI and super enthusiasts go SLI X80's that card makers just kind of forget about the X70's by the time the next generation is done.…
Agreed, I bought a $450 card at launch. Do I NEED that kind of processing girth? Nope. Do I even USE most of that processing girth? Nope. However, I will eventually come to use it, and until then I shall destroy all my friends in benchmarks :)
An old pickup truck will get you to work. But I kind of fancy my Cadillac.
I had SLI 470's (and you're totally right, I had to buy the second one used on ebay) and those melted anything I threw at them. I did, however end up selling both of them and buying a 4GB 670 SC which had basically the same performance as the other two. Both of my 470's ran @ 90C and I had to play games in my…
Absolutely, this card. Performance that rivals a 660, available with 2GB of VRAM, SLI capable, and usually comes with games or free to play game credits. This card is the most flexible little beast, I can't recommend it enough. I've installed it on three clients' computers since it's release and I've never gotten bad…
That new set of MBP's is the first where I felt like the absurd price wasn't so absurd any more. That's some sweet hardware.
Caution: 72p video ahead.
If I paid $1100 for a laptop and it didn't last six years, I'd be furious. I'm still using a laptop from 2004 that I paid $500 for. Same as you, RAM upgrade and battery replacement. Soon I'll be throwing in an ssd and hoping to hit 15 years.
Oh, interesting. But wouldn't that still come down to the developer decision to not release x86 compatible software?
Actually, when I worked at the Geek Squad, we took a client's ten year old acer, put an ssd in it and that sucker RIPPED through windows 8. Also, I've got a Gateway laptop that was pretty low-end in 2004 and it boots faster to Crunchbang linux faster than my W7 desktop does.
Ultimately it's just a problem with Windows…
The linux camp?
Seriously though, it's obnoxious how fast macbooks reach 'obsolescence'. A friend of mine just bought a new one (upgrading from a 2006) because he couldn't upgrade iTunes to communicate with his new iPod. They can keep iTunes updated on XP for 14 effing years but only 7 on a macbook? It's your own damn…
I really have no idea why people get these apps. Sure, malware exists on every platform ever. It's unstoppable. But if you only download stuff from the play store you'll never have an issue. I've seen a lot of adware on android from cheezey apps(you know the ilk: free ringtone apps, meme generators, free music apps).…
You said "linux will remain a fringe OS". Which is just stupid.
Also, the Steam Hardware survey shows Linux variants closing in on (if not passing) MacOS, considering a majority of 'other' is just different distro's. Or is MacOS just a fringe OS too?
