At the time, the Lotus would sell for $20-$30, (thats dollars, not thousands of dollars). They were no rarer than any other rare in the deck, they were just more useful so more in demand. 

There were 1,100 Alpha black lotus cards printed. All four that I owned were revised. I only had four for about 2 months but then people stopped playing me so I traded them off when I went to another deck (I think a doppleganger/clone deck, IIRC).
