There's a town in Maine (East Millinocket) whose high school is called Schenck High School. The name is pronounced "skank."

Chagrin Falls sounds like it's the sister city to Lake Wobegon.

And yet, when you mention that Islamophobia is inherently racist, they find themselves extremely capable to knowing and explaining the difference between the two to whoever is accusing them of racism.

I just finished China Miéville's Perdido Street Station and am going to start on the sequel - The Scar - just as soon as I'm done on this thread.

I've gotten a second job as a substitute elementary school summer day care supervisor. I've got at least one day that I'll be working, and hopefully I'll get a few others if the regulars call out sick on days when I'm not at my main job.

I also have to wonder why a German Jew would speak in the same polished British accent as his British aristocrat friend, and why neither character had that accent in the prequels.

That incident really made me lose a lot of my faith in humanity.

Remember the Pumpkinfest riot two years ago? A bunch of college students thought that a local community event would be a fun place in which to behave like barbarians. Tear gas and riot gear were employed in breaking up the hooliganism.

My username (is that what we call them?) is actually meant to be a riff off of "Abraham Sapien" from Hellboy, rather than on our species' scientific name, but I knew I had to change it to "sapiens" rather than "sapien" for this reason.

You … you do realize that Garrison Keillor and pretty much the entirety of PHC's audience are vehemently in favor of all three of those other things, right?

I feel like a significant portion of PHC's audience are those who go to both.

Say what you want about Garrison Keillor, but he manages to do both simultaneously. The nostalgia and down home-iness goes hand-in-hand with populist progressivism.

So, basically, "liberalism" is contrary and opposed to liberalism. What's called "liberalism" in Europe would be called "libertarianism" in America. Reminds me of the British use of the term "middle class" to refer to the upper class or "public school" to refer to private schools.

Come on, Yates, we know it's you.

The lesser of two evils approach isn't what caused those things.

"Liberalism is the opposite from Marxism as political concept"

"The Brexit didn't encourage racism."

Burton damn sure well did the character design in both "Nightmare" and "Giant Peach," I can tell you that. The guy's been hit-or-miss for a while, and miss-and-miss recently, as a director, but his skills as an illustrator are fantastic.

"It's sad that you think that our system works so poorly"
