Fair, but Rickman’s lack of singing ability led them to cut a number that’s actually REALLY important to understanding the story. It is the only time I’ll ever say, “Alan Rickman should not have been cast in that.”

Found it on YouTube and it definitely hits a bunch of them.
Ugh I WISH she’d said, “not approps,” which is what she’d actually say. It drove me crazy that she said, “not apprope,” singular.
Plus it would’ve been actually ironic—a parallel to Nathaniel casting himself as the nerdy underdog. Instead it was just two pretty WASPy guys with strong chins.
I had talked myself into him but this episode made me realize it was kind of a sham. He was just so positive and earnest in that opening scene, it made him feel like a 100% different character. Tried to imagine Santino in his stead and I just don’t know.
So, the karaoke parody felt infinitely familiar, but then I couldn’t provide my husband with a single example of what it was parodying. (My Best Friend’s Wedding and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days had karaoke scenes but they’re very different and don’t hit any of the beats CXG referenced.) Google wasn’t helpful. Any…
Yeah, I only looked it up because I couldn’t believe they kept opening their brothel doors to whoever knocked.
I do, however, hope they ever come back to this town again in my life.
Let’s all agree that a group of white teenage boys *that large* should never be sent anywhere.
It’s no wonder Phillips assumed the kids were bullying the (absolutely horrible) Black Israelites—there was a fucking MOB of them. Phillips no doubt thought he was about to witness a spontaneous lynching.
Ah, found this on Wikipedia:
Not sure what you mean re: #1. He would’ve turned 18 in 1972—probably wouldn’t have been drafted (though it’s possible), but could certainly have enlisted.
They didn’t call them out for white supremacy hats; they called them out for supporting a man they viewed as homosexual, and thus an abomination.
These kids suck but let’s please, PLEASE not make heroes or even reasonable people out of the Black Israelites.
Okay but how did Nathaniel not get Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Did she sign the money to him, or just give him legal access to the money?
They’re a funky treat for teens!
Either Donkey Doug of Kamillah, I guess.
Well he just lost my vote.

Crash won because it was about making white *Angelinos* feel better about racism. Green Book doesn’t have that extra edge.
It looks like it was taken out of context not by the documentary, but by people criticizing him for it now? I too am confused as to why he’d be criticized for this.
I just saw the quote here, out of context, and immediately assumed Chance was matter-of-factly owning up to how he’d let male privilege blind him in the past. He should be held up as an example of how to be a good, growing person.
