I am Jewish and I can still complain when horrible things are done in the name of the Bible.
(FWIW I can also complain about Israel’s atrocities, and do, so let’s skip that part Nazi Taggy.)

You blame capitalism but why is it that people routinely travel from non-capitalist countries to capitalist ones? Maybe their home countries could give capitalism a try?
The entire Republican ethos has shut its ears to the idea of preventing crime and misery. Their primary tenet is punishing people who inconvenience, upset, or scare them, regardless of the effect (to themselves or anyone) down the road.
Fingers crossed for Weinstein and Cosby, but yeah—the justice system is mostly not going to help with this.
Took me a second to realize which comment you were replying to.
Abusers count on that discomfort to protect them.
Yeah, no son, husband, or father has EVER abused a woman! Domestic violence is when a gay orphan bachelor abuses you and also lives in your home for some reason.
I mean I wasn’t sure how much cocaine comedy screenwriters can actually afford.
I feel like this is a genre relatable only to the film makers who don’t have to hold down a regular job and whose industry puts a premium on never getting any older. “This must be what it’s like for those poor slobs stuck in the real world,” they opine by the pool.
Yeah that’s why I included the “basically/reductively” note.
After all, a critic’s job (basically/reductively) is to give other people enough information to decide whether they want to see the thing being critiqued. So you have to go beyond your personal enjoyment, since different people enjoy different things.
Thank you for all of this. Yes to all of this.
...of course movies primarily featuring women can be well done. Of course. Frothy movies can be well done, too, and Ocean’s 8 was frothy and fun. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Ocean’s 11, which had good cinematography or whatever but idk I never saw the big deal. (If you look at contemporary reviews you’ll mostly…
Dude I haven’t seen the movie I’m just arguing from your premise. Move the goalposts if you want—I still think more than one movie a year should have a primarily female cast. Especially fun ones, in genres that typically feature very few women!
I didn’t even hear about Annihilation until months after it came out. I’m…
Oh my other qualm is that once Lou realized Debbie was using the heist to avenge herself against Claude, she got back on board way too easily. That was a great opportunity to have her walk, and then show up again at the last minute because she cared about Debbie too much to let her do it alone.
Yeah, it was kind of like they had to trim the end for time. A shame because he could’ve been how Hathaway’s character became useful. Like, he was the last person Debbie expected to be on the case, and they were kinda screwed because he knew she was involved, but somehow Daphne threw him off the scent and onto…
Especially since Ocean’s 11 was a remake anyway! Who honestly gives a fuck whether Bullock’s character was Debbie Ocean or Debbie Jones? Calling it Ocean’s 8 [or Ocean’s 7 which yes would’ve been better] means you know exactly what you’re getting, and that a pre-existing fictional world is being opened up to women.…
Women get one classy movie and that means we’re not allowed the same lighthearted romps men get from here to eternity?
There are at least three different potato-based sides that a menu might call “hash browns” that are distinct enough to inspire strong preferences.
My sister won’t repeat-brunch anywhere that has the “basically just short squat french fries” type of hash brown and I sympathize.
Sadly there are plenty of women who look for women to blame.
