I had consensual sex with the guy who raped me. I didn’t want to admit to myself that the dude I thought was a great guy was a rapist. And I bought his weak excuse, because I wanted to believe he was a great guy. Women don’t want bad guys, we want good guys. We want good guys so much, we’ll try to convince ourselves

That is literally the same look I give the men in my life when they sexist, insensitive or dumb things.

I’ve always felt that I’d be a happier person and have an easier go of it in life if I’d been born just a little bit dumber. Thanks for the affirmation, Pratt!

Seanan McGuire has an urban fantasy faery series set in the Bay Area. (October Daye). One of the main knowes is in Muir Woods, another one is at a local museum. The whole Bay Area features prominently. It’s a fabulous and engaging series. I highly recommend it.

Cathedral Grove at Muir Woods is where the United Nations Charter was signed! You stand there and it’s immediately clear that it’s a holy place of some kind.

the ‘breeding concept’ is def a dog whistle. made my stomach turn when I read it.

The dominant cultures in fascist regimes often refer to the dispossessed as ‘breeding,’ thus likening them/us to animals rather than fully-fledged humans.

Yeah, it’s not Jerry Brown’s first rodeo. His refusal to kowtow is half the reason Mango Unchained is gunning for him so hard.

It does sound like a fascinating exhibit. At the same time...looks like they’re all thin-soled, high-heeled, impractical, uncomfortable... Are there any everyday shoes in there: penny loafers worn by schoolgirls? Sensible Oxfords? Nurses’ shoes? Waitress’ shoes? Nuns’ shoes? Flip-flops? Crocs? House slippers? Running

Now playing

Interesting Q&A with Jerry Brown where he is grilled on the immigration question over most anything else:

I live a few minutes from Muir Woods. Come visit!

Breeding concept?

huh

I was there in March last year, and stood in line for over an hour in the afternoon to buy a ticket and enter. Visiting the former warehouse was profoundly moving—the Dutch have done a masterful job with the new museum on the site where Anne’s father had his business. I have to say, while I’m not religious I wondered

The BBC (not BCC) article really made me cry:

Seriously! I knew someone who was writing a dissertation on Roman coins. I was like...how much is there to say about coins? How many of them are there?

For further, well, listening, I guess, on these hoards, check out The British History Podcast. Jamie gives fascinating info both on the ancient context of the hoard itself - who owned all the stuff, why it was hoarded, etc. - and the archaeology of digging it up and figuring it out. So interesting. https://www.thebriti

Dr. Jaap Haartsen invented “bluetooth” technology in the 90s while working for Ericsson. He was a scientist and a Christian Extremist. King Bluetooth was the one who converted Denmark to Christianity.

Sorry, King Bluetooth is already taken by my chain of car audio superstores

@Allow Your ____ To Be Free: I have an elderly neighbor who was 12 or so when the war started going south for Germany, and was taken— essentially abducted— from his algebra class along with the other boys to perform anti aircraft battery in Dresden. They said they'd hurt their parents if they didn't behave. And then
