I’m pretty sure it’s been reported that Kaluuya and Stanfield were both submitted for Lead but the Academy decided to put them in Supporting, I’m sure it was discussed in various episodes of the Film Club podcast.

It’s supposed to be about the specific performance but in the Academy’s history it rarely is. That voters chose to stick closely to the criteria in this instance is somewhat questionable given the circumstances, and definitely unexpected.
Given that the Academy are often playing catch up (Daniel Kaluuya this year being a lock for supporting after not being awarded for Get Out rather than being the best supporting performance of the year for example), it is a surprising and questionable move for voters to have actually decided to vote for the stronger…
I normally don’t mind Sorkin and can generally look past historical accuracy being sacrificed for artistic licence, but I really did not enjoy Sorkin taking real life radical far-left activists and using them as a mouthpiece for a pretty centrist narrative.
I think that Trial of the Chicago 7 is definitely the worst of the bunch, I haven’t seen Nomadland yet nor have I listened to the podcast but intend to do both before Sundays ceremony. Mank is probably the second worst, but I’d say there’s a fair gulf between the two in quality, although I do find the Sorkinisation of…
We’ve not actually had a film simply titled ‘Captain America’ given that the previous three have all had a subtitle, I think it might be a good opportunity to fully announce Anthony Mackie as Captain America to those who haven’t watched FatWS.
You’ve managed to skip over the one legitimately good Fast film, Fast 5 is undoubtedly the high point of the franchise and perfectly rides the line between ludicrous action and high-octane fun that subsequent entries have struggled to balance.
You realise that young women do DofE too right?
I’m coming in 3 years past you and also without any knowledge of what comes next in the show, but I took the MIT theory to be exactly that, theory. There are some statistical anomalies (the entire town of Miracle, Nora’s dining table), but the departure was entirely random and the reason behind the 2% that left being…
Yeah I don’t disagree, just saying they aren’t explicitly confirmed as dead in universe so they still have an option to use them in other films, should the MonsterVerse continue.
Ah, I checked out of the opening credits because it just seemed like it was setting up the Hollow Earth stuff for those who haven’t seen the previous films so didn’t notice the Titans at the end.
When did GvK say that Godzilla killed all the other Titans? Admittedly I wasn’t dialed in 100% for all of the dialogue, but I thought that Kong was being kept in containment so that Godzilla wouldn’t sense his presence and attack, with Kong being another Alpha Titan like Godzilla and Ghidorah.
Maybe it’s because the ‘Zilla’ line was used in a fair amount of the marketing, but I preferred two of Whitford’s other lines.
I don’t know if I’d go so far as saying Rise of Skywalker is worse than Attack of the Clones, but there’s an argument to be made I guess.
It looks a lot like Glenn in the first photo but in the second it’s almost certainly not him.
I’m not getting the ‘trying too hard’ vibe from this group, I think that was more evident last series but chalking it up to the general anxiety most of the contestants will be feeling with all the changes filming during COVID.
I think the casting directors/producers should learn from this that they really don’t need to hire someone to play devils advocate when it comes to racism.
In fairness, they do quickly build a ‘frenemy’ relationship in Civil War, it’s possible they interacted offscreen in Wakanda, and potentially that Steve & co would occasionally visit Wakanda between Civil War and Infinity War. Sam is unsure about flying through Wakanda’s hologram, but it’s possible they would enter…
In my experience, most bars will use a rich syrup/gomme rather than simple syrup to minimise dilution while maintaining chilling during the shake. This also has a benefit of acting as the template for the ‘golden ratio’ of shaken cocktails that is 2 parts spirit, 1 part citrus and 1/2 part sweetener. Drinks made in…
Veritas (Probitas in the states) makes hands down the best daiquiri I’ve ever had, I’d recommend picking up a bottle just for this reason.
