Star Wars didn’t become ‘Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope’ until 1981, a year after Empire Strikes Back was released, which consequently became ‘Star Wars - Episode V: Empire Strikes Back’ so not even Empire was planned as part 5 of a 6 film series, it was an unplanned sequel following the unexpected runaway success

The problem I can see with the next election is that the voters Labour will almost certainly lose will be split unevenly among smaller parties, whereas I think most Tory voters have already made clear that the suffering of others isn’t going to sway them to another party, although the effects of COVID are far more

You have to hope that a GE is called late 2021 or early 2022 given the Government’s shambolic COVID response, the only problem is Labour haven’t done themselves many favours throughout last year by failing to properly act as opposition and I can’t see them getting anywhere near a majority either (unless they get rid

Agreed, especially since it was directed at the child rapist brother.

I took that to mean Hawke was drawing a distinction between the importance of Britain’s rule then and now, emphasising somebody to mean the Crown owned the country then and now they are their own country.

I think she called him ‘Dub’, as in ‘W’, it still shows their familiar relationship that she has a casual nickname for him but without the overly paternal connection. I doubt Wilford formed an emotional enough connection with Alex that would lead to her thinking of him as Dad.

Sure population density will have played a factor when comparing the UK and US seeing as we’ve both had a poor response to the pandemic, but I take issue with the whole population density argument in general. Not in this particular case, but I’ve mostly seen it used by people (read: idiots) arguing against lockdown

The thing you’ve maybe not considered is that Carano’s comments and attitudes will likely go on to create a hostile work environment. It takes a lot of people to make a TV show, the chances that someone working on The Mandalorian is trans is high, it’s almost a certainty that someone working has trans friends or

In all honesty, living in the UK I don’t imagine I’ll find it fun to watch and/or mock any dramatisation of the man that has caused our country to have the worst COVID death rate in the world, advocated for Brexit and then shat the bed with EU negotiations so hard that we’ll feel the effects for generations to come,

Trump is more obviously worse, but we (UK) don’t have the worst COVID death rate in the world for no reason.

There could at least be some attempt to explain the B+ grade beyond deducting points for lack of Kathryn Hahn. The “reviewer” has made no indication so far the lack of actual commentary on the series is because there is little offered from each episode to actually discuss, but surely there’s a way to fill an article

*Mothra!

It’s at least partially because Zendaya is a former Disney child star who has been famous since she was 14 and still primarily plays teenage characters, whereas Elizabeth Olsen was 21 when she first started acting and has largely played age appropriate characters (or at least characters within an ambiguous mid to late

I really don’t understand the point of recaps, especially for what is being promoted as a prestige show (at least in terms of production if not theme) that is part of basically the largest property in pop culture at the moment. Even if the reviewer doesn’t feel there is much in way of thematic content to engage with,

Yeah when it’s first pressed down (activated? I’m not sure the correct way to describe using a toaster) that was definitely the repulsor sound effect used, after that it seemed to be a pretty generic detonating bomb sound as the light flashed red.

In fairness, Themyscira is presumably not just invisible to the eye but to all forms of detection (other than stumbling through the barrier), so it would make sense that Diana’s influence on the jet has the same result.

I’m not sure if this would have compounded the problem alongside Joe existing as another form for the majority of the movie, or would have been a welcome gesture toward further representation, but Joe didn’t have to be straight either. There’s a grand total of 2 lines (that I remember) referencing a romantic interest

I don’t think the show is necessarily doing much to dissuade the idea that they weren’t pirates. They are called pirates by a character, likely to prevent the show from going too dark for younger viewers by outright having Mando kill dozens of freedom fighters.

I do find it interesting that in every one of these slideshow articles (especially the Best of 2020) someone comments with the same request, usually with a few stars, yet I always find it buried at the bottom of the thread, under a bunch of comments with less (and often no) stars at all.

Folks advocating for someone to be raped to death in a ditch over someone’s opinion aren’t likely the ones who have any problem with Carano’s views. Most, if not all, of the “allies” you’re talking about simply want her to sincerely apologise for her comments and/or for Disney to drop her from The Mandalorian.
