I see what you're saying. I guess I'm coming from the mindset that ads objectifying men and women and ads glorifying consumerism aren't going to stop anytime soon, and it really is a challenge to censor absolutely everything children see, so for me teaching children to be critical, and of course encouraging discussion

I can see that happening with sexual assault survivors, now that you mention it. That's a good way to put it: not wanting to be taken in my a sob story.

Clearly the white, middle aged, Christian men in Arizona are being treated unfairly. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE FOR TEH WHITE MENZ

I'm excited because for this because Miss J was the person who made gender expression a concrete idea for me when I was a teen.

YES. THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, WILLIS.

I think it's because people don't want to believe humans can be so monstrous. Especially parents. Too many people are not educated enough on abuse, and when they encouter truely painful stories they don't know how to deal with it other than deny it. It's easier than changing their reality.

I totally agree with you. I think our definitions of protection may be different, correct me if I'm wrong. For me, the best protection comes not from limiting exposure to this material, but rather discussing what objectification is, why it's awful, and how pervasive it is. That way, when these kids become adults

Because talking to your kids about the sexualisation and objectifion of women for profit is too hard, apparently.

My beef with the lady is that she hasn't yet stated she was buying the shirts specifically to protest objectification of women for profit. She was doing it to "protect" her son, foremost, her daughter, secondly, and other youth. I know intent is hard to prove but I'm very sure her intent here is to limit the exposure

I think you're missing the point. We're talking about mistreatment of trans people. I have not seen any comment labeling Canada as a "trans hating" country, nor any content in the article doing likewise, so I'm inclined to take your fears of such as invalid. Also, country origins seem to matter to you since you made

OMG a civilized discussion on the internet! There is hope!

Did you come here to talk constructively about how race is socially structured in the US or did you come here to hate on liberals? You may be on the wrong site.

THIS. You point out exactly what is wrong with education in general, in my opinion.

Ok, that can happen on any site with a comment section.

I think you're right to be horrified, but I don't think it's fair to call this woman a monster.

Ummmm I'm Canadian, too, so you can stop right there. There is prejudice everywhere, despite national reputations.

THIS. A THOUSAND TIMES THIS.

Thank you for pointing this out. I LOVE it when people act like anything anyone does that they don't agree with is OBVIOUSLY for attention.

No one is upset she went to jail for overstaying a visa. People are upset because of how she was treated in jail.

I agree with you, but if you don't give a shit about rape or rape culture this probably isn't the article you should comment on.
