We really should apologize to Steubenville for all the trouble we've put them through.

For me, I wouldn't have begun to question racism or sexism on a societal scale unless I took a Women's Studies Class. Fortunately I did, and from that particular class I learned not to discount anyone's life experience just because I was raised in a world that unfairly privileged mine.

You're comment made me think otherwise. Maybe that IS why she chose ranch dressing!

I read that third paragraph three times just to make sure I didn't have an aneurism. That is incredible.

I don't know why you're dismissing where the knowledge to fight systemic sexism and racism comes from, but I do agree more people who identify as feminist need to listen to how sexism effects males. It does happen, and it needs to be addressed.

You're welcome! Thank you for not being internet-yelly with me, and, wait for it, having a discussion. There are an awful lot of trolls out there, I get where you're coming from.

I think what your high school colleagues were doing was learning about a language and a culture (I'm assuming they went such lengths as to get the proper, traditional dress). The problem with Katy Perry's performance is that she did not show she went to the same lengths to learn the culture that she wanted to

I wasn't being facetious, I think you're absolutely right in saying she is celebrating stereotypes and not a whole culture. If she were to offer a workshop, that would have shown she's studied Japanese culture and knows enough about it to share what the culture really is with others, which would be great. However,

She doesn't have to have malicious intent to perform a racist action.

I worked at a pizza place with three "Christians" who made fun of a woman who was going through a physically abusive relationship with her husband because of the weird, nervous ticks she had, most likely the results of the abusive relationship.

My only experience with religion and food options was Kosher hot dogs, and I gotta say, shit was delicious. It was of a much higher quality than other hot dogs I've eaten, and respectful of the beliefs of a group of people, so I couldn't have been happier with them. I can't imagine making meals Halal would be any

THANK YOU

This. I love this part:

And now you understand my initial confusion concerning our dance department.

I went to a performing arts high-school, and the big rumor was that one of the dance department teachers spent some time in her life eating cotton balls dipped in ranch dressing. Somehow this seems better than juice.

"Let's ask a woman herself."

I totally agree with you and hope consent education will be included in middle- and high-school sex ed in the future, but I'm certain this change will be slow because of helicopter/notmyboy/ specialsnowflake parents. It's easier to have this sort of education in college because most students are adults.

That is too perfect to actually happen. I envision some conservative, somewhere screaming about freedoms being violated.

As someone who has worked at a pizza place, unless we received specific instruction (like notification that the customer was vegan/vegetarian), we didn't change gloves when putting on different toppings. So unless we made the veggie half first, there is still some meat oils/whatever on the veggies. You're right to

Shitting all over someone's empathy typically won't encourage them to be empathetic again, that's all I'm saying.
