what Israel is doing in Gaza is nothing short of trying to eradicate the memory of people who have resided in a region for centuries. What would you call it-apartheid? Assholism? Semantics don't change the fact that it's completely disgusting and wrong.

one of the great cinema iconoclasts. YEAR OF THE DRAGON in particular completely rewired my mind. Really wish his 2 novels that were published in France would be released in North America

the man completely destroyed his legacy by becoming a Zionist hardliner in his twlight years and supporting the genocide of the Palestinian people.

Barry Adamson's Moss Side Story and Les McCann's Layers anticipate Endtroducing

I can't think of any other album that captures the rage and despair of the early 21st century as well as that one

the absence of Primal Scream's XTRMNTR, the best album of the last 20 years, nullifies this list

Much, MUCH better film than Unforgiven, IMO. Philip Kaufmann's script is phenomenal.

Uh, Heather Matarrazzo turned down the part for this film AND Palindromes. Research-it's never killed anybody!

Mistress America was fucking hilarious

11:14 (Greg Marcks, 2003) is another good one. The Nines (John August, 2007) is an interesting twist on this idea as well.

Nelson Algren's A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE (audiobook)

the musical that taught us all that paraplegics are simply lazy and need motivation to regain use of their legs

this is gonna turn into that thread where we all throw shit at the AV Club for being unfamiliar with 1970's shows, isn't it?

His relationship with Sophie Marceau? They made some great films together. He definitely used his own relationships as fodder in his films (POSSESSION and LA FIDELITE)

You're totally right.

It's an incredible work. The colours and use of certain lenses are so beautiful that it almost looks like a stereoscopic 3d work in certain shots. The very last scene, where Zulawski himself appears, gave me goosebumps, too

Zulawski only adapted works from fellow Poles, too.

Zulawski was a feminist. Lovecraft would not have appealed to him.

Interesting how you discuss Zulawski being a singular talent, and yet you don't mention any of his other films to support that. A huge touring retrospective of his works was held prior to his passing, and it was a thrill to watch films like On the Silver Globe, La Femme Publique, Szamanka and The Third Part of Night

I could've sworn I've seen that, too.
