I’ve been taken aback by how socially conservative Harvard is in comparison to other Ivies. My daughter is beginning the college process and Harvard lags well behind its peers on LGBT friendliness and all-around gender inclusivity in so many ways. It’s really striking.

Was it really targeted to teen girls? I have two teens who use social media all of the time and they didn’t know anything about it. I even have one who loves all things 80s.

I was being a little hyperbolic with that statement because the attacks against Planned Parenthood have just been relentless, so it certainly feels like I could go broke with this plan. But tbh I can afford to do this and I freely choose to do so. It’s just much more than I first anticipated.

Exactly. I give $100 to Planned Parenthood every time I drive by protestors in front of a woman’s health clinic near me. I have two teenaged daughters and we smile and wave, letting them know that their efforts are helping PP.

    God, YES. Over and over!

I assume most watch on their laptops. Which, at least in our case, are needed for school. Some parents allow it but my guess is that most don’t even know what the show is about.

I will admit that I’ve only seen one full episode, but between the OTT meanness and all of the “Which Chanel Are You?”/ “Would You Be Accepted Into KKT?” quizzes that my daughter’s middle school friends are obsessing over, I really fucking HATE this show. They don’t seem to care that these characters are supposed to

Exactly. When my FB feed was talking about the Ebola vaccine breakthrough a few weeks ago, I was quick to point out “BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE HUMANE DONATION OF FETAL TISSUE, PEOPLE!!”

I hadn’t thought about it that way, but you’re right. Legitimizing that faction of the GOP was the beginning of the end.

It seriously makes my blood boil. There was a huge breakthrough recently in treating type 1 diabetes that came about because of the medical community’s access to fetal tissue. I’ve read that hospitals are getting nervous about using fetal tissue for research because of political reasons.

    Ah yes, correct. :)

If you aren’t doing all-out sexy, you are basically going to be a roman goddess or a witch (although there are sexy versions of both) with the adult pre-made costumes. So I went with Athena last year.

    Yes, same for NYC.

I didn’t know that about Austrailia/NZ. Interesting. I only know about Europe because I live there a few months out of the year. Having celiac disease is easier there than here. People know what it is and no one scoffs.

You may be right about the use of the language, but often it’s indicated on the package 10ppm or I’ve even seen 5ppm. I think I’ve read that they can test down to 3. I assume we have 20 because it’s too costly, not because it’s the lowest level. Lots of people want that to change.

My daughter can tolerate dedicated GF oats (as can many celiacs) but she needed to be oat-free the first six months after her diagnosis. General Mills takes contaminated oats and picks out the little bits of rye and wheat to “wash” them.

Vegan pasta is a thing! No eggs.

Modeling clay can contain gluten. It was one of the first things our GE mentioned to avoid at school. Play Doh is a definite AVOID. Some adhesives (like envelope glue you lick) used to contain gluten but most don’t now.

Absolutely. My teenaged daughter will laugh at the gluten free jokes and jabs at her, but it really does suck. She HATES standing out, and it’s something she has to deal with multiple times, every day.

Lots of brands have flour in them for pliability.
