That just has not been my experience at all. The Episcopal church (and the people within it) are far more liberal and more prone to be pro-choice and pro-gay rights than the people making up the Catholic church. A lot of ex-Catholics join the Episcopal church because the structure and pageantry of the service is…
As a former Catholic and a current Episcopalian, I strongly disagree. I don’t see many Episcopal church leaders supporting the Religious Freedom Acts in various states. I also don’t see them pushing through right t0 life legislation. My Episcopal priest is a gay woman. She would never, ever be accepted in the “chill”…
It’s still not enough for me, and that’s why I left. Most of my family has left the church, too, including the older people. Some became Episcopalians and others just practice, or don’t, on their own. It’s very freeing to realize you don’t HAVE to live under this set of rules.
Exactly the same here. There is no magic formula to parenting.
I agree, I’m just saying that punishing the girls isn’t unheard of, even here in NYC. My kids are in HS and MS and I’ve seen it happen within the last couple of years. It’s not just hick towns and Fox News calling for this.
I agree, that seems so harsh. But I also think it’s not always the case of a girl being betrayed by a boy. Sometimes girls send nudes to more than one person. I don’t want to get into ANY sort of shaming but each case should be considered separately, although that can be hard to do.
I think It’s becoming the norm to give girls the same punishment. I can think of a school in NY that did. I believe the school’s rationale was that the boy was distributing porn but the girl was, too, by sending it to him. And yes, it’s illegal to take a nude selfie if you are underaged. She’s actually creating AND…
I see the same thing at my daughter’s HS and I’ve posted about how great the kids are here before. It’s like night and day compared to my high school experience where no way, no WAY would anyone feel the slightest bit comfortable coming out.
I’m sure it’s the tone, but you’re right. Housekeepers at hotels definitely undergo training. This isn’t so different.
I have a middle schooler now and that stuff still happens. Except now you get the added visual of the porn they are streaming on their phones. Fun!
I am old enough to remember when people said this openly (and also in the press!) about the prospect of Geraldine Ferraro becoming VICE President. “But he could die and then it’s her finger is on the button! What if she gets HER PERIOD?!”
That thing in the hands of 99% of the witnesses is not just a video recorder and liking machine. It’s a communication device on which someone could call 9-1-1.
My kid’s high school does a pretty good job at this. The students are called out on any sexist/racist/homophobic bullshit 100% of the time and nothing along those lines is chalked up to “kids being kids.” Gay teachers share their stories on Ally Day, and two kids have come out in front of everyone at assemblies and…
Maybe Sweet Briar should have relied more on poorly-paid, part-time, adjunct faculty like most other universities. Nearly 85% of their professors were full time, mostly tenured. And many were provided housing. That's the model that isn't sustainable.
