Telltale cut at the moment he takes it out in a movie full of forced perspective. I doubt that blade was even close enough for him to hear it.

if not this, what?

i don’t think it’s so much ‘a universal trope that audiences are all familiar with’ and just ‘a little jokey reference that some people might pick up on

They’re dumb opinions, but it’s not like he’s shouting them at you on the street. He’s saying then on a podcast, that by definition, people are listening to because they want to hear his opinions. You clicked this link because you wanted to read his opinions.

I’d argue that being a dick has always been his thing. His humor has relied on sarcasm and a general dismissiveness toward other people’s feelings for a very long time. It just used to be on stage, directed at a straw man breaking the unwritten rules of society, so we tended to agree with him. There was more to it,

Wealthy men always think everyone wants to hear their opinion.

I’m assuming it’s Wolfs and not Wolves because of some joke in the movie where they both claim to be a lone wolf, and one of them says they’ll have to be lone wolfs together, leading to an argument about whether you’re still a lone wolf if you’re hanging out with another wolf.

Can’t believe it took me this long to say it but: what a hack. First and foremost, adaptation is inherently an act of change; changing the medium of the story doesn’t just involve changing the shape of a story, it demands it. You’re a lot more likely to dash yourself against the rocks hewing too faithfully to the

I’m just going to note that Moana putting a huge, awkwardly-shaped shell on top the stacked rocks of her ancestors totally ruins that tradition for anyone else.

I always thought it would be funny to show that “the wasteland” of Mad Max is just a desert somewhere and the rest of the world is just fine.

We need to normalize recasting. In all properties - nothing is sacred, these are roles.

The “maybe they’re just crazy in a room somewhere” trope has to be one of my least favourite lazy fan theories. It’s almost never based on anything actually present in the text - because it doesn’t need to be; if the protagonist is crazy everything is unreliable - and it usually adds nothing to the story thematically.

And let’s be real: Too Old Gibson probably could have still gotten the Harrison Ford revisits his greatest hits treatment. It’s the problematic part that kept him out.

They also managed to make a series about vampires without ever (a) using the word “Vampire”, or (b) making the absence of the word super-distracting.

I found Angel more insufferable than Buffy, honestly. Yes, Buffy could act like a total teenager sometimes, but she was literally a teenager so at least that’s authentic writing. Angel is like 200 years old (and looks like he’s 30) yet he frequently acts less mature than Buffy. In both shows, the lead character is one

To be fair that was really only Buffy’s thing in the first season and maybe extending into the second a bit. By around Season 3 she’s fully embraced her destiny and even gets protective of her role when other Slayers show up.

Quite wild to find Buffy whiny and insufferable when that’s basically Angel’s entire thing.

The list should include Ultraviolet, a late nineties UK tv serial from Joe Ahearne that starred Jack Davenport, Idris Elba, and Sussanah Harker. It is a smart horror/thriller, easily binged at only six episodes, and can be found on Tubi, Pluto, etc. Plus I think the unsold U.S. remake pilot can be found on Youtube.

Ultraviolet with  Susannah Harker, Idris Elba, and Jack Davenport was quite good I thought, less constrained by vampire mythology than some of these shows

I agree that Angel (the series) is better, but Angel (the character) is also quite insufferable. Imo, lead characters are seldom the most interesting ones.
