I read the novel recently, and I found it to be quite funny, funnier than Emma and Pride and Prejudice (but not Northanger Abbey).

I just finished Bookishness: Loving Books in a Digital Age by Jessica Pressman, which was fun to read as a book lover. And I’m struggling to finish The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd; great idea, disappointing execution.

I liked Baudolino, too; it’s on my list of books to re-read someday. Numero Zero’s plot reminds me a bit of Foucault’s Pendulum, specifically the editors publishing wacky conspiracy theories.

I read the Hot Zone years ago and really enjoyed it, as much as one can enjoy that kind of thing. Coming off the heels of this pandemic, however, I’m not sure I’m ready to read Crisis in the Red Zone.

I use a pizza cutter to cut them into squarish shapes (depending on how patient I am), but I also bake them against each other. I don’t have the patience to dig out my round cutters, and I hate wasting dough.

No kidding. I have kids with special needs. The idea of having to alert every school official, para, therapist, doctor, nurse, government agency, and social worker (not to mention my own doctors) is nightmare-inducing.

And also stumbling onto his loved one being tortured.

I’m picturing a scenario where Barry doesn’t want to leave prison; there’s a relative peace there (especially since he can protect himself as necessary) where he will no longer have to make decisions or hide who he is, and if the prison has some sort of theatre rehab program (like in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend or Muppets

I always have closed captioning on (noisy kids) (not that I watch Barry in front of them) and Cristobal says something as he is embraced by Hank (I think it was Hank’s name, I’d have to watch again), so I’m definitely going with not dead or brain dead. But possibly brain damaged.

This is so sad. I can’t tell you how many times I fell asleep to either the Twin Peaks soundtrack or the Until the End of the World one. My heart and prayers go out to her loved ones.

I suspect they will pick the blandest, non-controversial songs they can find about being nice to one another.

Your byline was enough to have me email this, unread, to my husband who loves bacon, whole fish, and grilling.

You talked me into a first watch!

Is this based on the AS Byatt short story?

For real? I guess I’ll start saving my half-popped kernels and get a side gig going.

So excited for this!

There wasn’t a need, for what it’s worth. I was born in PR and “moved to the United States” as a child. It’s less cumbersome than “moved to the 50-states part of the United States.”

My mom has Roku! I can just visit her!

It’s especially stupid because “e” was right there in gender-neutral words like “estudiante.” It’s even more stupid because it’s only ever used for “Latino” and “Latina”; nobody’s writing “Mexicanx” (two different x pronunciations!) or “abogadx” or “amigx.”
