Are you reporting on what they are saying, though? Or just repeating it? It's one thing to say that RDJ said "X" <—direct quote and it's being construed to mean Y, isn't the media interesting? And its entirely another to say RDJ said X and it means Y.

Trust me , The Tab is not a reputable news source! It is a self professed tabloid (hence The Tab - although it's also called that because it was founded in Cambridge where graduates are called cantabs and blah blah blah) and the chances are that question was neither asked nor answered in a serious manner. Also, due to

"Not entirely sure, no. It is how every other news site (including those that had reporters in the room) is reporting it, though, and Downey's known for being an asshole."

I know this little shit TOTALLY deserves it, but I kinda cringe when some college kid has the worst night of his life and gets put on blast to the world.

I can't tell how he meant it there, but from my understanding (I've read a lot of interviews etc by/about him) he's actually not known for being an asshole—that's just the character he plays and his knee-jerk responses tend to be a bit Tony Stark-ish these days. For the most part, though, his reputation seems quite

Well, here's a wild idea: Maybe you shouldn't write it in your story and include it in your headline if you're "not entirely sure" that's what he meant, much less when a reasonable interpretation is that he meant something quite different. Stick with the asshole part; that seems sufficiently grounded in reality.

There's a difference between being an asshole and being a misogynist. You got your hits for the article though, congrats on your investigative journalism. ;)

Wait, what? Seriously, Madeleine???
"I'm not entirely sure that's what he was saying, but other news outlets are reporting it, so I better go ahead and definitively state he was saying just that in my headline."

Have some dignity. Christ...

I thought he was known for helping out under-privileged kids, not shaming his son for his addiction and helping little old ladies who fall at parties but I guess asshole is a term we throw around pretty lightly these days.

Good thing you went with it anyway.

Oh man. The irony of the "yellow journalism" jab comes into full fruition here. I can't get enough.

After reading the actual quote in context and the headline, I don't see how any reasonable person would assume he was referring to feminism as being dead. No, it's journalism that is dead and this article is just one more example of the stench of decay wafting from it's rotting corpse.

It really sounds like he was being facetious as hell. I never see him take any press conferences or interviews very seriously...

I'm curious as to what he meant and would love for him to elaborate on what he said. I'm not defending him, but since when has 'it is how every other news site is reporting it' been the measure of how we choose to portray and report something? I mean, look at the way the media consistently portrays women or black men

I have a hard time believing he was serious about that statement when he was so clearly not serious about anything else he said.

He's also known for not taking stupid questions seriously (hence the penis answer). "Scarlett Johansson has never had her own superhero movie. Would you call yourself a feminist?" is garbled nonsense, despite hinting at something that would count as an actual useful question.

Or he's not taking any of this nonsense seriously. Should he, really?
