Yeah, I’m not surprised he dug Way of Water considering it’s effectively Cameron with a massive budget and full creative control. As that’s the sort of film Scorcese celebrates.

Was it all Jeeps?

It was me. Police eventually caught me after noticing the 10,547 cars in my driveway. Honestly, I’m relieved it’s over. The insurance alone was breaking me!

People get so mad when they read this stuff. Yeah, you can watch old stuff on streaming services, if you can find them in the dustiest back-menu before they get dropped off. But independent—or even midbudget studio—movies aren’t being greenlit and playing in the theaters which makes new filmmakers struggle more than

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to learn that much of this is staged. I’m sure there are plenty of gross restaurants but I can’t imagine how they are passing health inspections with the level of sheer nastiness at these places.

Ben Hur?

I think Scorsese is arguing that if something isn’t done to elevate and amplify those independent voices, then those voices will get drowned out, and that’s not good. It’s great that we have unparalleled access to those independent voices, but ask any independent developer on an app store what good that access is if

To be fair, most POS systems are a complete POS.

Yes, about a third have a little kitchen skill and think they have some magic talent, another third have no skill but see a popular restaurant and think “I could run that, and make money!” and the last bunch who assume it is going to be all accolades and glory but have not a clue. The amount of money used to start up

bold of you to assume they’re not real transformers

He does shoot the silly-voice boys on film though, and made a freakin’ Borges/Escher movie between Batsmen.

There was one where they kept finding cats in various stages of decomp and mummification as they shovelled through the layers. The old woman would look at a pile of bones and fur and say, “That was Muffin! She’s been missing for 2 years!”

that was always my fave thing about the british show. sometimes he’d come back a year later and the place would just...be closed! they baked it into the narrative that even if some once-in-a-lifetime lifeline comes in, it still might not be enough.

It is incredible the lack of awareness of both the day-to-day operations and the business side while investing sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars into something they haven’t even researched?! They have some weirdly romantic notion about the title of ownership and little else.

Honestly I’m more into the bad food that gets served than the fridges full of gunk.

Tabitha, like Gordon, exposed how many people get into a business with no idea how to financially manage it, and/or do not take into account the everyday difficulty, while having some dreamy idea of what being an owner/manager entails!?

Yes, yes, this show has it’s gross moments but nothing probably will ever top finding the flattened “mummified” cat under a pile of junk on an episode of Hoarders.

Most of all, it exposes how many people get into the restaurant business with absolutely no idea what they’re doing. I know I could never handle owning a restaurant, which is why I haven’t tried to.

I can’t help but love these shows; Kitchen Nightmares, Bar Rescue, and Restaurant: Impossible (and, to a lesser degree, Hotel Hell and Hotel Impossible) are not “good” but they are as hell are entertaining. They’ve become almost like a TV comfort food for me, even though you can really just watch the first 10 minutes

I’m intrigued.  It’s hard to imagine topping Dr. Pimple Popper.
